A Blitz Product Commercial
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/A Blitz Product Commercial
Hi Fellow Blitzers,
An idea was just started recently, on having a commercial for blitz products on the internet. Some of think this is a great idea. We were hoping to get screenshots, vid clips etc, in this commercial. Would anybody like to submit any of their work for this project? It can be 2D, 3D, etc, just has to be from a Blitz product. After this commercial has been created, we will have the link to Blitz as well as secondary sites about Blitz. Then connect this commercial to sites as well as search engines. Wouldnt it be nice to see your work in a commercial on the web? Let us know. And provide link for us to access your work etc. Remember, not ALL vids or screenshots will be used.
ps.additional help would be great. We need somebody with great video editing as well as audio editing. If your interested in helping let me know.
And who is this aimed at?
Blitz. Its their product, and people really dont know we are here, unless somebody tells them, or they find it. Not only that, but also helps others know of other sites who support Blitz.
I sure can give you both some screens and vids from Archon2160 if thats interesting at all with a nonfinished product in this case.
You want to know HOW I found out about Blitz? I spent a little time being amused at how video games were evolving. And I wanted a piece of that action. But I dint know what the people were called. Video games makers, video game creators. I asked everybody I knew, but they didnt have a clue (im a poet and dont know it LOL)Anyhow, i was getting agravated, because I didnt know what that process was called. So, I turned to an online book store, and searched 'create, video game'. Thats how I found a book, and learned they were called 'programmers'. So after I bought this book, there was a demo inside. And do you know who's demo it was? Right, Blitz. I never knew of Blitz, never heard of Blitz. So, Im sure you know the rest of the story. But other new people not knowing about programers or the Blitz products and forums do. Thats why we came up with the idea of a commercial. It will sell Blitz products as well as bring some distant programers to us. Nice idea, I thought.
Sure, anything you have will be great. We are thinking 5-10 seconds of clips of each individual game. That way we dont have a 2 hour commercial.
For what reason? BRL seem happy to let Blitz tick along as it is, and pre a 3d max module and given b3d's age it would seem the wrong time.
I've often thought a blitz portal which advertised only blitz games would have been cool, and brought more people to the blitz site. I realise Indiepath will see this as a reason to mention www.pjio.com, but it isn't a blitz game site and also involves installing igloader which most people just won't do including me
And who is this aimed at?
Blitz.
I think Blitz Research already know about their own product. I think what Tim was asking ( and if not, I'm asking now because I was about to ask the same question when I noticed he already had ) was who are you aiming to get to watch the commercial? "Build it and they will come" might work in Kevin Costner movies, but in the real world, someone has to see the commercial. Who is going to see it? Where is it going to be? What are you going to do with it?
Gabriel hit the nail on the head.
I approached BRL about pjio - nuff said.
involves installing igloader which most people just won't do including me
Maybe the Vista version will make you feel more comfortable. As for the rest of the world - well we're tracking millions of installs so it's not all bad news.
oops sorry guys I miss understood your question. This is aimed at anybody interested at programing as well as programers unknowledged of Blitz. We will connect this commercial to popular search engines as well as anybodys websites. It could go on all day, where we are going to put it, but ideas are always welcome. And as far as it getting old, I disagree. John proved that with Naked Wars. And we never know if Blitz will create something in the future to keep it 'new'. Time will tell that fate. But as far as this commercial idea is, to get it together and see where it takes us. And if we need a new one in the future or change where we put it, then we can deal with that when it happens

Ask me again when you've given this a bit more thought. At the moment, it's very much in the "build it and they will come" category for me. I can't see spending the time it would take to put together any footage for something as vague as "on search engines and people's websites".
you can use some of the screen shots here: www.ashfordgames.com if you want
ok.....do you have a webite? Put it on your website. I was originally starting it in google vids, yahoo vids, puki's youtube vids. Just a start. Then Mike's site, John's site, etc, etc. Maybe even THIS site. Who knows, we are just getting started (2 days ago) But we cant start it if we dont have anything to show. Thats why I stated the whole
but ideas are always welcome
thing. Im not programing. Im making a commercial. It will eventually end up all over the place.
Slunkar
Thank you. The screenshots look great. Thanks again.
ok.....do you have a webite? Put it on your website.
Yes, it's where I advertise things that make me money, and where people pay me to advertise things that make them money.
Im making a commercial.
Yeah, I get it. Another organ grinder in search of monkeys. You don't have the content, you don't have the ideas, you just want to be in charge.
It will eventually end up all over the place.
I don't think it will.
I think Blitz is only becoming old in the eye's of it's existing customer base. We are talking about learning to program here not I've got more bells and whistles than you etc.
Speaking of bells and whistles well sirens actually, it may be my fear and anxiety but what's the significance of the sig Trooper Dave, is that you behind the wheel?
No, Im a cop. Or Trooper in this matter. I found that sig online.
YouTube states - We specifically recommend the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format at 320x240 resolution with MP3 audio.
Eek, I'm going to need some codecs installed to attempt that on a standard XP machine.
I have to stop sending postes before correcting them, anyhow..
Yeah, I get it. Another organ grinder in search of monkeys. You don't have the content, you don't have the ideas, you just want to be in charge.
where did you come up with that one? I can take orders as well as give them. I never said anythig about being in charge. One second I'll give an order to somebody speeding or being stupid, and the next take orders from my commanding officers. Like I said, I was an idea from somebody else 2 days ago, and we are just getting started. We have to start somewhere. I didnt start this thread to keep people busy, iI started it to see if anybody can help in this project. And thank you by the way Skidracer for your input. Highly grateful.

Skidracer, Im having the same exact problem as well. I have the XP and its refusing to download that codec.
where did you come up with that one? I can take orders as well as give them.
It wasn't intended as a slur, and if you took it that way, I apologise. I didn't necessarily mean it in the ordering people about sense either. It just seems that there are so many people with ideas who want to.. perhaps organize is a better word?.. but aren't really contributing themselves.
I mean, if you started this thread with clips from several of your games which you had put aside to start with or something I would feel differently about it, but you need people to provide the content, people to do the editing and people to distribute it, so I'm really not sure what your part of this is.
If I'm just coming across as being ratty then ignore me, I probably am.
I think the DV-AVI option will be acceptable from movie maker which creates an AVI file.
I'm thinking a test 640x480 @ 30 hz movie, and if it works well with youtube do all the production work at that resolution also.
Some sort of audio bed in the background and a commentary about whats being shown would be good. If contributors were prepared to do phone interviews you could mix it up into more of a documentary than ad. Or it could be more a regular blitz user magazine show.
No prob. Actually, I really dont have a title in this project exept working out the legal issue (stealing somebodys work with out permission)Since Im a newbie programmer(big time) I dont have anything to show of my own. And because Im not the type to just sit down and watch others do the work, I participate one way or another. In this case, get the requests out, and keep it legal. I have other talents, but they dont work with a commercial. Well, this part anyway. I spent some time checking out Blitzers work. I have to say, we have some seriously creative people out there. I think their work should be shown, rather than myself make a cheap home video about Blitz. And because I have a few people allready doing their thing, some other feilds would be required. I need somebody who can edit video, and then make it great. I could do it, but why have me do it if Joe whatever do it better. In fact, its more of an honor to be asked for people to supply their work, and show their creativity at least in my eyes, than to represent Blitz in 1 persons view. I cant wait for the day for somebody to ask me to supply some of my work in a vid or promotion. But, thats my opinion...Now where is John with Naked Wars?
Awsome Skidracer, I think that setup will work for the majority of sites. If certain sites have a different setup, we can change that accordingly.

If it works out like we hope, maybe we can do both. :)
Cool, Fredborg seems to have set the bar, from searching blitz3d on youtube:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=uuccl9ywyKQviews=16:(
yes, I was starting to watch it but I had a codec problem there. Look like its up a working now. Cool.
There's a BlitzMax water shader video on there with
290 views:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3AmujjdOQ0U
Actually, there was a bunch. Search Blitz3D there. Some of them do look great.
Maybe a demo theatre here hosted alongside the gallery would be an idea, you are allowed to embed youtube vids in your own site correct?
Correct.
Strange, but I cant seem to download any youtube vids. I started a rough draft vid to see how great I can do. Its look pretty good actually. Im just stuck with a vid I want. The vid is actually Fredborg's vid. I hope he has it somewhere else as well
..hmm..no offense, but why would anyone do advertising for free?
..hmm..no offense, but why would anyone do advertising for free?
The idea is to create a video commercial to showcase what blitz can do, simple as that.
..yes, I understand that..I also understand that you showing what Blitz can do, so peoples will make nice advertising for Blitz products, based on their work, and only BRL will took interest out of that, and none of the peoples whos participate and put their work in to that advertisment..no offense but Blitz wasnt free too..
It's perfect for YouTube though.
That's their core business concept. The product is provided by unpaid labor.
I think it's a great idea - Blitz should be better known all around the world, and where it's already known it should be ...um..more known. So there.
I agree 100% Thank you. And I started a rough draft vid (10 sec) Now, I know, not everybody agrees with this idea of a commercial. I do understand both sides. Trust me I do. But if I spend the next 30 years makes unlimited commercials for Blitz, then thats on me. I hope nobody here has stopped programming any of their games, because others may not share their view. But at the moment, I choose to do this commercial. So again I ask, Does anybody have any thing to offer towards this? Im taking a little of what Gabriel said, and doing a little of the editing myself. I just need permission and links to great programs done, worthy of a commercial. Any suggestions.
I think Blitz is only becoming old in the eye's of it's existing customer base. We are talking about learning to program here not I've got more bells and whistles than you etc.
Yeah, but I don't see many new faces on these forums. Over the last year, how many new people have signed up?
SEE, thats the problem. Nobody knows about Blitz. Either they were told, had a demo, or found it on a search. The biggest reason for this commercial. Point well taken. :)

Well, if more people find out that products like Blitz Plus, Blitz 3D, or BlitzMax exist then there is a greater likelihood that they may end up purchasing a BRL product.
Seems to me that it's a Win-Win proposition to make a commercial for BRL.
Here's the thought process, if more people are exposed to Blitz and buy a product. There'll be more new people on the forum to shake things up around here.
BRL having more revenue might consider adding more programming staff (even if just temporarily). This would then get you and all of the other existing programmers more updates and bug fixes.
If you don't want to participate that's fine, but why discourage others from doing so. I think people in general waste more time in offtopic than could ever be wasted in trying to promote something that is in everyone's best interest.
Just my take.
Andy
Andy. Thank You. :)
rob cumming's cubemapped water demo is worth adding. as are jfk's csp engine demos, jeppe nielsen's pyroparticle demos, sswift's shadow system demo, etc.
So run this by us once more - in a nutshell what do you want us to supply you with? Avis and screenshots? I'll be having something up an running fairly soon - but what are the specs/limits on what we should send to you?
.avi vids, if possible and screenshots, .bmp, .jpg. There is no deadline or anything, so take your time. Pretty much what were looking for is 'in game play' as so to speak. Anything that is Blitz programming related. If you are in the middle of making it, that would be nice too. What we want to achieve is, showing Blitz games, how its programed, behind the scenes etc. After Skidracer's suggestion above, I think we can do both. A 2-4 minute commercial and possibly a kind of documentary. Get as creative as possible. So in a nutshell, anything and everything would be nice. Thanks again to everybody who supplied info.
Also, hand over all media for your games and demos - the media must be unprotected and not encrypted - doesn't matter whether it is in your demo or game - just make sure my copies are not.
I'll store it all on a spare hard-drive which will become a godsend if anyone's computer crashes.
I'm particularly interested in AAA quality media.
Also, hand over all source code - I'll put it with the media.
Plus anything else that I might want to put in my game.
Puki, do you have a link available?
Nope.
Ok, I have a somebody over at Devcrunch get some stuff for us this weekend. Were should I tell him to send it to?
puki?
And I needs links for this kid to start recording in-game play (has hypercam).
views=16:(
Well it's 82 now. Which seems to suggest that this website is a better advertising venue than YouTube. Quick - sell out to Google!
LOL
Trooper Dave;
you shouldn't take Puki's mad rambling all too serious..
He just wants to get his sticky-fingers on all the media and source he can.. hehe
If you want, you can use screenshots/videos from my BattleTanks II game. Here it is from the Caiman website (where it won 1st place in the easter competition):
http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f2349.htmlIf you want, I can make a video of it with FRAPS myself, but then it would have the "FRAPS" logo on the video.
This sounds like a good idea and wouldn't be a negative thing. I have no idea what the fuss is all about.
you shouldn't take Puki's mad rambling all too serious
Believe it or not, this comercial thing was HIS idea. LOL
Thank you John, that saves the kid from devcrunch searching for vids on some of your work. :)
I have no idea what the fuss is all about.
Well, I think everybody was entitled to there opinion. Some like it the way it is, and other think its a great move for Blitz. But after reviewing the conversation a little bit, I realized I should have done some homework first before acting like a kid in a candy store. I think a couple of us were having slightly bad moment, and it clashed a little. I was over it in less than a hour. But, I learned a little lesson. Next time, I'll pre-write requestes like this, before I post, then check up if there is another solution first. Now about more links......
Great idea.
This is a project I'm working on when I get the time ...
http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=61487#689116Latest demo here ..
http://www.steviegoodwin.plus.com/EngineTest6.zipAlso, previous finished this a couple of year ago ...
http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=38995#434062Not sure if you could use them but I could make a couple of vids but as JohnJ says, it'd have the FRAPS logo on it? Let me know.
Stevie
Oh, um - "Trooper Dave", you are hereby promoted to chief organiser.
Right, that's that sorted.
10 4 Sir! Now about those links LOL.......
What links? What are you talking about? What's going on? What's the fat hobbit talking about?
Ah, I understand - you want me to give you links to videos.
No, no, no - you have to make them yourself.
You see, the video I did was with FRAPS (I have a licensed copy). However, these are home-made vids - I haven't asked any Blitzers for permissions or obtained any stuff.
This kid on DevCrunch - just tell him to go through his samples directory and start filming them himself.
Right, that's that sorted.
Back to my sweeties.
Not You Puki LOL The links are for anybody else who wants to supply videos. LOL to funny
Well, we covered that too before - there is no link.
I wasn't collating videos - I was making my own. I wasn't asking for submissions. There is no submissions link - doesn't exist.
The video that I put up on YouTube took ages and ages - that's why I have since delegated it all over to you.
Right, that's that sorted - now where did I put that "Mickey Mouse"-shaped Smartie?
Ok, now its getting too funny. Puki I want anybody who has a link to THEIR work, to list it here, so YOU and I can see what THEY have. LOL. You and I are on the same team.LOL So my question is, "Do any of you Blitzers have links to provide, so I can see your games, and get info "? Pretty much I need to know where Blitzers games are located, so I can have somebody play or get a video from your games. God I hope I dont have to re-say this. I think Im saying something wrong? LOL
ex: www.nakedwars/videos.com <-- not real link, just an example.
I'm not following this.
Right, where did I put that fizzy jelly-hippo?
In order for people to have any of their games in the comercial, they have to supply me a link to get to it. I dont know were everybody store there stuff. And not only that, but I need permission anyway. I know where some of these Blitzers have their games, but I still need permission. Because I already have 1 refuse, I have to ask. Im sure Monkeyguy (made him up) has a great game for comercial, but if I dont know where or what site its located on, I cant get a vid of it. Thats why I need a link to there vid, screenshot, or game etc.
Well, I just took mine. Forget the permission bit - just go take them.
You can start in the gallery section - pick everything interesting then check each Blitzer's site for a demo - if not, you'll have to buy their game. Just video it with FRAPS or something. Your best option is to talk them into doing it for you. Just make a note of the ones that refuse.
You can video the stuff in the samples directory of your Blitz3D directory - plus the there is stuff in the code-archives section that can be video'd too.
Yeh, there is a lot of work here - good job I delegated this off - would have taken me ages.
Wow. It must of really been busy here today at work. While taking calls and dispatching cruisers to emergencies, I totaly forgot that I did ask puki for a link, to put all of my collected vids earlier. Puki, I apologize. I did ask you for a link, but now Im asking everyone else for there links as well. Im using the internet computer for Blitz, while answering the 911 incoming calls, and then using that computer. Im working and playing at the same time. I somehow forgot I asked you that previous link question. Sorry again.
So... What city would I have to dial 911 in to interrupt your Blitz-forums browsing?
I'll start the car already.
What link question?
...just make it stop. Please?
I hear ya
This thread would be easier to read with out all the cop cars, it is starting to resemble a blues brothers movie.
If you stare at the police car - pretty much nose to the screen - then after about half an hour it turns into a banana.
LOL. Ok, removing it LOL
Bang goes my banana.
Trooper Dave: Here's a link to the trailer video for BattleTanks II (although it's slightly outdated):
http://www.alsbonsai.com/john/TankDestroyer2.wmv
Thanks John J., Thats the kind of links I was asking about all along :) And thanks to everyone else who provided links to vids as well.
AWSOME!! Thats what Ive been talking about all along. Links like this one www.alsbonsai.com/john/TankDestroyer2.wmv
The link was provided by John J. This is all I needed. Vids like this in avi format with a link to it. John J Thank you.
