Sold out already. Gotta love Sony.

Prepare for people selling them for stupid money on eBay then post-Christmas price cuts. Sony knew there was a band of people who would buy this thing whatever they charged. The ones of us with BRAINS in our heads will be happy to wait until they cut the price within six months of launch.

Interested to see how it does after all the anti-hype.

Maybe a v2 of it like the smaller PS2 will be interesting to buy?

Well, here are a few positive bits and pieces:

Easily upgradable hard drives; procedure in the manual:

Of course, the PCishness of this console really is absurd. It has support for multiple OSs (thankfully it's Linux-based. They may win over a few unexpected users...); hard drives and apparently games that install themselves to them?!); and upgradability.
All completely unnecessary for a game console.

Come to think of it... what were they thinking?!

It will be quite exciting when stuff like Cell comes available for my PC. It does seem to be a well designed processor, well suited to multi-tasking operating systems.

Yeah, the Wii'll be exactly the same way. We probably won't see a good supply of PS3s or Wiis getting into households until AT LEAST January or February. I mean, look at how long it took for MS to release an adequate number of X360s to satisfy everyone. Now you have the two others having to do the same old thing (I almost thought that Sony and Nintendo would've actually learned from MS's mistakes, well, guess not). Plus, the fact that the launch dates are two days apart with Nintendo and Sony, that only makes things worse having both released the same weekend like that. So, I don't see getting one until next year (you'd even be lucky to preorder one of these bad boys either).

I like their user guide... http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/index.html

...if you wouldn't mind filling it in as you go along. :P

GAH!!
All that money spent on research and development, yet they still manage to call the WEB Browser an "Internet Browser".

Hey, hey this is still better than
Microsoft Mail
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Calculator
:

Really why can't they just call it Mail. As soon as your taskbar will have some apps open you won't be able to read something apart from Microsoft... :O)

That Open Platform thingy sounds interesting. Shame there's not much information about it yet.

True. I've been an anti-hyper myself, not because there is anything wrong with the system - most likely it will be the best of the latest bunch, just not enough better to justify the price tag.

When the price comes down I'm sure I'll be picking one up.

Good thing about the PS3, means there'll be lots of cheap PS2's coming onto the market.

Might just get another PS2 instead. For now, at least.

I never did get around to getting a PS2...

I bet the linux bit is tacked on just to avoid the heavy game-console taxation in EU.

EDIT:
Anyway, me and a friend is having a friendly competition over the PS3's success :D
I've made the bet that they won't do well, and will even fail financially and Sony would possibly get bought up by another company.
My friend thinks it will do great and sell beyond all expectation.

crazy that they are launching in Japan with only 100,000 units. Wonder if anyone here got a PS3 yet.

I don't know if selling beyond expectation works very well when you have such a tiny number of consoles...

Why does this happen EVERY time a console is launched????

Because shortages sell consoles. When everyone hears how demand was so high that hardly anyone got one, they all rush out to get one because they must be great if everyone wanted one. Never underestimate the resemblance between the average consumer and a sheep ;)

*Mähähähähähähäääähh* :O)

Hmm i really like the user settings of the ps3. Are there meanwhile any videos on the net which show the console in action?

*whistles* And that's only one of three PS3's that owner has.

That's a lot of moolah, makes me curious as to how the Wii will do with its 2 million units for the launch-date itself.
(I believe Japan is getting 500k of that 2mil?)

Heh, the PS2 was $150 or less since last holiday season already. Maybe the release of the PS3'll knock down the PS2 price to around $100 this holiday season, I have a hunch...

Just a few YouTubes...
