SHMUP-DEV shooter compo prizes exceed $400 in Cash

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/SHMUP-DEV shooter compo prizes exceed $400 in Cash

Hey all, I just wanted to drop in as the end of our game design competition nears.

On Jan 1st, the competition ends for the $250.00 cash prize (+lots of other prizes from our sponsors) which will be picked out by the judges. But now you can also get another chance to win $200.00 (thanks to pjio, and shmup-dev) if you win by popular vote at http://www.pjio.com

please visit http://www.shmup-dev.com for more information!

Hiya Matt. You wanna give away a copy of my BlitzMax Game Framework as a prize? It's already a prize on a german Blitz coding compo.

{offtopic}Grey, there are developer mentoring pages going into pjio - Hopefully BlitzResearch will take part but either way I'd like to help you promote your tools since they really do help people to get from a to b in a much shorter time.

Sorry for the hijack Matt.

{ontopic} - 'cmon girls and boys - If you don't want money then what do you want? :P

All these competitions are very nice and I'd love to enter some of em, but as it stands I lack any kind of inspiration for ideas. So I'll pass.

Good luck to those joining though.

Peace on earth and good will towards men?

How about compos that don't run in parallel, like say you could have a shmup-dev compo at a different time than the devcrunch christmas thing?

Just an idea - you might get more submissions to individual compos if they wheren't in competition. I suppose one could make a christmasy ahoot-em up.

SHMUP-DEV started before devcrunch :P I suppose the next contest I'll try to keep my eye on others to make sure we get the max in entries.

Grey, I'd be happy to, just throw me a standard size banner and a URL, along with who your giving your prize to. Hit me up via email ;)

Both of these compos have different audiences and different member groups - the more competitions the better. The entrants earn ad-share and the voters earn Loyaly points that they can later turn into prizes, discounts and game purchases.

The fact that they are posted at the same time is probably due to the fact that pjio has only been live since monday :)

Well...i had an idea...but I may get this thread locked... :p

@Neuro: Brains?

Zombie alarm!!

Matt: OK, will do tomorrow. I only wish *I* had the time to enter this compo. perhaps the next one...

Indie: sounds cool let's talk when you are ready. a to b is around 250 hours saved so it's definitely worth the money...my next game should prove what's possible with it.

Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition ;) I can't wait to see the entries for both compos! Anything that gets people coding is a good thing.

Good luck Matt, and the shmup-dev lot; and thanks to Indiepath for his contribution. :)

This is directed at both Cicero (or another admin from DevCrunch) and Matt, because I would need permission from both of you. Would it be alright if I enter the same game in both competitions? My game, although christmas-themed, is also a shooter.

Torrente, of course! Your game was made for the DC compo, so you can do whatever else you want with it.

I'm not sure on the Shmup-Dev rules, but as long as your entry meets their guidelines too, it should be fine.

Matt?..

For those who are undecided which competition to enter, note that the prizes in the two competitions are quite different, so choose the competition prizes that you are interested in, and enter! :) Or do a Christmas shoot-em-up like Torrente and have your fingers in both pies!

You mean it's ok to enter with a game that's been used in a nother contest? If that's the case it's ver uncommon in these gamecontests

Matt: Email sent. PLease look for it as my emails have bounced back from you before as spam :-O!

Hey Cicero, a game designed for the DC Competition will work just be perfectly fine for the shmup-dev compo as long as it is a shooter ;) (well, and it goes with the rules as outlined for the competition @ the shmup-dev site)

:)

Grey, got the email, expect a reply soon.

Looks like if you make an xmas shooter you can enter both contests.. as long as you can autofire, of course.. Please check the outlines for shmup-dev rules to make sure its eligable.

We need to set some ground rules for cross-entries simply because a game that is presented in both competitions is likely to gather more ratings. Now this is not a problem unless there is a tie breaker, and at that point we need to look at other merits such as positive community feedback.

I'll work something out and let you all know.

Got linkage?

This contest started back in August 31? I think some of us are gonna be a bit behind...
