What does everyone use to do animated models, I mean plan out and design the animations not the animations themselves?
Animation question?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Animation question? I would reckon you draw them out on paper, as stick men. Then once you got a rough version, refine it, to be more precise. Gives you a good guide when animating.
I haven't done any 3D model animation, but the same principle applies to 2D sprites --
It can be helpful to videotape (or find a video of) whatever action it is you're looking for. walking, running, kneeling down, etc.
you can use these as reference material, or even cut out the appropriate frames from the video and use them to draw/design on top of.
One nice place is this site: http://www.3d.sk/?id=15
Specifically aimed at 3D artists and game developers. It contains tons of reference photo's and video's of people of all bodytypes, performing many types of actions. (Basic standing/walking, but also wielding various weapons, etc. Subscription site, but many freebies available as well.)
