IE7 Problem

Since installing IE7 (yes I know, what was I thinking?) my start menu on WinXP seems to take longer to kick in, by this I mean sometimes, but not always, it hangs for a second or two before coming up. Nothing major just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this annoying quirk.

Same here. I also have a new problem. When I right click an icon in my systray, both the icon's menu and the regular taskbar menu pops up. It's about to drive me nuts.

I've installed IE7 and haven't had either of those problems.

No problems like that with my machine.

None for me - so far. I was finding Firefox the more troublesome of the two over the past few months.

none of those problems here either. Only problem I'm having is that some of the favourites I dragged manyaly over from my old HD to my IE7 favourites open up two browser windows

having fewer probs with IE7 than firefox here too. was using firefox during the beta because the beta IE7 wasn't certified for online banking.

I'm not seeing the menu speed or taskbar issues on my machine, but I am pretty disappointed in the look & feel of IE7. (Hadn't used it before)

Particularly how they hid the standard file/edit/view menu by default, and even after you reenable it you can't actually have it show up at the TOP of the window above the addressbar where it ought to be.

Also the implementations of the tabs -- it shares the same line as most of the menu options, which cannot be moved to another vertical position (it would make more sense to me to have these next to the address box or on their own toolbar, rather than taking up valueable tab-space. Especially since the tabs don't automatically roll over onto a next line if there are too many open to show at the same time.

I do like the overview screen where you can get a miniature representation of the page on each tab, and the printing system is vastly approved. The GUI, however, it a big mess in my book. Gotta love how MS keeps radically redesigning their look & feel so drastically every couple of years, yet at the same time keep hammering 3rd party developers about consistency in their design guidelines. I'll stick with Avant Browser myself, at least it got the GUI right. :-?

No problemo with IE7, except on this site:

It gives me an In Time Debugger or something, maybe because of Visual Studio.

Firefox 2 doesn't even start the videos.

IE7 doesn't actually have any system components like IE5/6 did, so it's likely unrelated.

That`s what I thought but it definitely only happening since I installed it as I had a fresh install of Windows with pretty much nothing else on. I am going to uninstall and see what happens.

Another thing I noticed was that after installing it some of the defualt Windows stuff had reappeared. Things like the picture and music samples which I had deleted prior to the installation. Why would these things be tampered with if I`m only installing a web browser?

Sounds like normal windows operation to me.

True, but things have definitely started to crawl just that little bit slower. I`m not too sure about the new look IE7 anyway so I think it`s got to go.

I'm not sure about he new UI, though I think I could get used to it's "streamlined" approach. Main problem I have is that it seems to be incredibly slow at actually, you know, browsing. Probably not helped by my still being on a 56k modem, but still - it's a lot slower than any other browser. So ... back to Firefox.

Edit: Also at first I was convinced that my whole PC got slower after installing IE 7, now (a week later) it seems to be okay, so it might've just been my imagination...

OK I`ve uninstalled IE7 and the problem with the start menu hanging is still there. I am 100% sure this didn`t happen before I installed the program so I have no idea as to what it has done to my XP installation.

When I click on start in the lower left sometimes it takes a good three seconds to open up when normally it appears straight away. This only happens every now and then though. I wonder what may cause this? Any ideas?

Nope, I defragment every week and have very little on this computer at the moment anyway.

I`ve noticed in IE7 that all the fonts are antialiased. Can this be turn off? Maybe this is somehow causing a problem.
I`m clutching at straws here.

Have you cleared out the Documents area of the start menu? Maybe there's something in there that's taking a bit to access.

Yep, done that too. Have you managed to rectify your problems just out of interest markd?

Also when I go to change my start menu name,account name, all the text there is smoothed out too. I don`t remember this happening before. How can it be turned off as I think this may be causing the slowdown.

I have tried turning off smooth screen fonts in the performance settings but this text and the text in IE7 is still smoothed out.

Internet Options --> Advanced --> Settings --> Multimedia --> Always use ClearType for HTML*.

Although it's been off by default for every installation I've seen (but I've only seen the beta releases). And it only just occurred to me that maybe it just uses default antialiasing instead of switched AA off, when you don't tick this anyway... so might not be helpful to you.

Again, IE7 doesn't integrate into Windows Explorer anymore, so I don't know. It's obviously changed the Internet Settings control panel so god knows what else they changed that isn't related to Explorer but is ;]
