Just had this crazy idea that what if you would print several different colored bits of paper, and then glue them to a ordinary controller, or some other cube like object (one bit on each corner of the object etc). Then use a webcam to track these dots, it should be able to construct the movement of those dots in 3d? Thus, you could create Nintendo Wii controller for practically 0$.
Webcam Wii remote?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Webcam Wii remote? did you smoke the carpet ? ^^
I don't remember where it was, but somebody did exactly what you describe. It was linked to some game engine as an example project.
Nintendo Wii Controler has no 3D movement (ie depth). Its the same as sony six axis + the "target sensor" which is at least partially similar to the one of light guns, just not the same unprecise technology.
But depth etc is something the Wii controller does not know of. It only knows of relative things ie if you move the controller it can recognize the difference. (knowledge like this has been spread when the talk on some gesture recognition weakness and live move library came up some months ago)
