Think it was obvious that was going to happen. Just like with XP where they had rumours of some kind of draconian scheme. Happens every time :)

Whoops another one is that the release date of vista for the public is said to be the 30.1.2007.

The way to do this is to buy XP:

More and more PC distributors are offering this for free.

Buy an XP PC before a certain deadline (for example Dell have a deadline of 31/3/07).

They then send you the Vista upgrade CD for free - you just pay for delivery.

Mesh (UK) are just charging £15.00 for the delivery of the Vista upgrade.

Based on the fact that when you buy a PC you don't normally get an actual Windows install CD, I quite like the option of buying a XP system and get the Vista upgrade CD as it is better than buying a Vista system and not having a Vista install CD. At least this way you have an installation CD - even if it is purely to upgrade XP to Vista.

£15 to post a CD?! That's hardly free.

Some places don't specify the actual 'shipping' fee - so Mesh have done well to state a price. Of course the value depends on the value of a XP to Vista upgrade pack. I'd assume you must be saving a fair amount via this option.

Microsoft say that this wont be the case half the time this time round as they built it not to work...

I laugh at that, since it's hardly going to be effective!

I mention CyberPower as they are my current favourite place for me to buy a new system.

Except that you first have to buy a PC? :) (Then again a new PC is always nice and maybe necessary to run Vista...)
