Stupid website referal

Is there anyway way to turn them off?

I'm trying to access

www.gamespot.com

but everytime I try and go there it keeps referring me to

uk.gamespot.com

which is hopeless because I want to see the UK release date, they're meaningless to me, I don't wait for Europe releases.
This never used to happen before I can normally get to the page just by typing in the American link, just because I live in the UK doesn't mean I want to look at the UK page. FFS!? Any ideas?

I've always wondered how websites do that. It's definately one of the more annoying features of browsing the internet (After popups,Flash) etc.

I think in this case it is checking the ip address where the request is originating, or at least the domain.

Visit the site via www.the-cloak.com

It'll be slower than browsing it normally but it won't redirect you to the uk domain :)
