Click removal in sounds

Can anyone recommend a free tool that effectively removes clicks from sound samples? I already know about Audacity but it doesn`t seem to be able to remove my clicks and pops :(

CoolEdit - it will allow you to Zoom right in on the little bugger and then you can interpolate the signal.

Are these for sounds you've recorded yourself?

You can solve this problem by removing the pops/clicks from the original sample by either buying a pop filter, or making one.

Pop filters i find never really work that great. its always good to have some software, or vst plugins to elimate the sounds.

Personally I use Sony SoundForge but I grew up on Cool Edit and it works just as well.

I made a pop filter using one of these:


And some nylons, by stretching the nylons over it.

I found that 4 layers of material gave a much better sound than without anything between me and the mic.

But pop shield doesn't remove "clicks". It removes pops and wind noise from when you speak into a mic. A "click" is a high pitched sound that occurs over a few samples and is eaisly removed, while a "pop" (as referred to here), is far longer and unremovable with post processing.

Wont filtering your pop through nylons make it taste funny?

These are sounds I have recorded myself. I shall give all these techniques a go and see which works best.

It depends on the sort of pop.

If its the pop caused by recording of the letter P then a wire coathanger bent into a circle with some tights/nylons as above wrapped around works wonders.

If its the sort of click noise you assosiate with recording LPs, cooledit or soundforge will do the job. I'm quite surprised Audacity doesn't do it but as I found out just 2 days ago, it doesn't!

Ah you mean sibilants and plosives. Well you need a good filter for that - get SoundForge :)
