I'm currently installing Dark Messiah
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/I'm currently installing Dark Messiah
No phone calls please.
This is going to be fun - it uses the HL2 engine from what I can gather - as it uses Steam.
Looks like it may be fun to play - I played an earlier demo of it and didn't like it. However, I'll give it a go.
God this thing is still installing. I thought it would just be an install off disk and away I go - I'm doing the old 'Steam' bit now - a bit like when Half-Life 2 came out.
Sniffage.
Well, this is just ridiculous - it has only updated 2% of the single-player game!
I'm most displeased and borderline tantrum.
More time for you to find out how to cheat in this one too! :O)
puki!!!! noooooooo!!!!
Or maybe yes but advise caution...Lots of bugs in it, likes to crash >.<
With Geforce cards you must install an earlier driver (84.12 I think) otherwise it suffers from memory leaks and frequent system lock ups i.e. every time it loads a new level.
Switching textures to medium res is also recommended but this could be linked to that memory leak problem above.
Twice it crashed and both times it broke the installation of my sound card and since the sound card drivers need to be installed before the card is in place...well quite alot of hassle you can imagine.
It has only crashed once since I installed the older driver (and backed up my hard drive so I don't have to reinstall the sound card again!)
A nice looking/playable game if it were not for the crashes...being based on the source engine I was expecting something rock solid...HL2 has never come close to even a suggestion of crashing on my PC.
Look, I am only installing this game for one thing and I am bursting my Large to get a look:

I really can't wait much longer.
I've just hit 3% installation - woopie-doo - guess I won't be playing with her tonight.
I'm so not happy. I've heard you get a good look when she sits down with you in the boat.
Right it took about 7 or 8 minutes for 1% to pass by - considering I am only on 4% - how long will this take?
10gig ... ouch
I'm only on 6%.
I'm off to bed - I will be sulking all night over this.
All this for a piece of of ass!!!
Think Bacon, all will be well. Eventually.
puki = michael abrash?
eh, you should know that there's a flaw somewhere in the Steam installation thingy.
I installed the game from the DVD and then it went and downloaded it from Steam aswell.
There's an update on steam, yes, but thats only like 3 or 30mb.
After that, its streaming all the files you've already installed from the internet.
Just close down steam and start the single-player game from your install folder - it works just fine.
What?
You mean I went to bed early, in the hope that it would be done by the time I wake up, for nothing?
That there is a bug in steam?
I could have played this last night?
The thing is only 75% done anyway.
I won't be able to play it now until later anyway - I'm going to have to wait another 8 and a half hours.
I AM GOING TO BE SPEAKING WITH SOMEONE'S PARENTS!!!
What the heck... is this game an operating system or something?!
:b
*laughing*
This is gonna be entertaining... :O)
Keep up informing us!
let's hope the game doesn't suck.. LOL
It's clear you were thinking sausage instead. It's not like you were not warned puki. I think we should share news of this behaviour with your mum, I don't expect she'll be all that amused either.
let's hope the game doesn't suck.. LOL
According to every review I've read, it does.
...not
I played the demo on steam. It's very choppy, not original really, and pretty much just a bunch of eye candy, and oh god that vioce! how feckin annoying!
I got the Collector Edition on DVD, got some annoying bugs though and not much freedom of choices. I wouldn't say it sucks but its not the best, Oblivion is better.
Turning down the texture basically removes most of the choppyness
Well, here in germany the game got good to very good results. In the mag i have lying around here they gave them even 90%. Beside of this i only saw some videos so i can't judge this but normally they don't test bad stuff as good.
Didn't the german version have the gore toned down (ie no decapitation, or severing limbs)?
the problem is that most PC mags just rate according to eye-candy... at least that's what it looks like..
I AM STILL NOT PLAYING IT!
I TRIED TO ABANDON THE STEAM DOWNLOAD AND JUST PLAY IT LIKE "ASHMANTLE" SAID - IT REFUSED TO DO SO AS STEAM CLAIMS IT WAS NOT READY FOR OFFLINE PLAY.
SO, GUESS WHAT CHUFFINGLY UHAPPY BLITERZ IS GOING BACK THROUGH THE STEAM PROCESS?
ME - THAT'S WHO - ME - "puki"
I'VE FOUND "GABE NEWELL'S" EMAIL - NOW I AM GOING TO FIND WHERE HE LIVES AND INSERT A LARGE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT INTO HIM!
uhoh, looks like this is not going to be any ordinary tantrum, not even an M&S one, this looks like it may be the full English Sunday roast with all the veg... and gravy. ;O)
I AM STILL NOT PLAYING IT!
What did you expect with such a draconian copy protection schemes? I mean no offense, but people who buy a second steam game after being thoroughly shafted the first time, deserve everything they're getting. A fool and his money is easilly seperated.
hehe
ok, Puki, have you tried what I said earlier? Just close Steam and start the game from your Start menu folder?
Its all in there, just forget about steam - in fact, choose the steam game, right click on it and select "Delete local cache" or something. Not needed.
as for the game, massive fun. pure and simple.
Although don't expect more than minimal RPG elements.
must have worked :)
I played it for a couple of hours and then got bored of it.
Ahahaha after all that waiting. You got majorly owned! Any good upshots?
@puki
Just to get an idea: Which games did you enjoy?
The problem with 'Dark messiah' is it is too shallow - it isn't really a RPG which is what Might and Magic is associated with. It is more like Thief - which was a game I liked.
'Dark Messiah' seems very repetitive.
As i've read the strength of it lies in the fields gore, physics, action, level design and that you can see yourself from the first person view.
From the screenshots it just looks like Oblivion -- which I found repetitive and boring.
Games are always personal taste, but i really love this game. i think the story is absorbing, and the gameplay excellent. I experienced none of the problems puki had, and the game installed in no time. Everything about this game, shines quality.
Again.. its always personal taste

I quite enjoy Sam&Max! :O)
I got a bit bored of 'Uplink' so I started to play 'Dark Messiah' again. I'm starting to like it now - it is gradually growing on me. However, it is not an Oblivion-type RPG, it is pretty much linear - like Half-Life 2 with a RPG theme.
It is more of a FPS/beat-em-up.
I have recovered from the shock and shall solider on with it. It has actually, diverted my attention from Gothic 3 - but then I have bought 4 new games, so I am flirting, teasing and playing hard-to-get with all of them.
I still enjoy Sam&Max... :O)
Sigh, sadly I don't have that much time for games anymore.
Gothic3, NW2, BF2142, Prey is more than enough for me.
At least I'm saving money as the prices for games drop over time.
Honestly the gayest game I've ever played. Movement feels like crap, fighting is crap, slow, and hard. What a waste of 3GB.
