Anyone transferred Steam to a new PC?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Anyone transferred Steam to a new PC?
I'll be ordering my new PC soon.
One thing that sprung to mind is transferring my Valve/Steam games onto it.
Now, I have Half-Life 2 (original) on CD. Plus, I bought the download version of HL2 Episode 1 via Steam.
Anyone here already transferred Steam games to a new PC or know if it is possible?
Yup, you just download 'em again. I bought HL2 on disc, but I only used it one time. Since then I've reinstalled my PC, and just downloaded it. I put Steam on my laptop for Defcon, but could easily redownload HL2 on there if I wanted to.
Just copy the Valve folder from Program Files onto the new PC. Log in when you start it on the new PC and you're off.
Great.
yeah, I made the mistake of not copying the valve folder over. You still get all your games, but only after waiting days for them to all download again. CS:Source rocks!
Yep steam rocks.
its even better than visa sequrity.
You can even keep steam on the old machine too. It only keeps you from logging in on both at the same time, and I believe you can play two different games at the same time with the same account on two different machines. I have steam loaded on two machines at home, my kids play on the one and I play on the other.
