I read a article in Pc format (UK) about the Plus points of DX10 and windows vista, in the article they say that open gl could be doomed. I hope this isnt true
The end of openGL?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/The end of openGL? As long as DirectX remains Windows-only, there'll be OpenGL.
Oh No! Open GL doomed! Not again! That'll be the three hundred and ninety sixth time since it was first seen! ;O)
Can I code using DirectX 'standards' for my DS?
...I didn't think so.
DirectX is nowhere!

397th dont forget that time last tuesday. OpenGL reaches WAY beyond the windows platform, it's a very arrogant statement to say it will die because of Windows.
With every new release of DirectX you get the "opengl will die" crowd coming along.
I give up! I'll just pretend we didn't here that, maybe they will forget and go away. Shhh, quiet they're leaving.
Oh yeah, I had a bad cold that day, so I guess I missed that one! I think the next one is due two weeks next Wednesday, they had to move 398 to allow for the Elvis sighting...

Well, since M$ purchased the bulk of SGI OGL IP, and OGL is technically behind DX, it's really only a question of when rather than if. But yeah, the old bag has a little life left in it still.

Well with the invention of DX10 being limited to only one OS in the Windows family, I don't see OGL being superceded too fast. First of all, DX9 apps run like crap next to OGL as of Vista RC2. Most people are saying that's because ATI and nVidia don't have their drivers up to scratch for Vista yet and that will change after Vista is released proper. I'm skeptical. As far as being a developer goes, with a keen eye on Vista, it seems to me that if one isn't going to embrace DX10, then OGL is the clear choice.
is there any chance of open gl having a new version to offer some of direct x 10's features. from what im reading about it (I too am skeptical) it is quite a leap from direct x 9. i know that open gl will be supported for the next few years at least because of mac and linux but there mot really big on gaming so they are unlikly to fuel people on to make any inprovments to open gl like windows did.

Elvis uses Open GL? Wow! I thought only Jim Morrison and the Men in Black were using that as a form of mind control...
Post much lamer than it sounded in my head... must fix head!

OpenGL is also used on the Playstation 3 and Wii. I think you can play games on those platforms ;)
If you like, you can learn it.
