Need a surround sound system
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Need a surround sound system
heh, I have been looking for a while but can't find anything cheap!
I've got my speakers, i've got an amp even, but the amp is analogue only.
What i'd like is to set up surround sound. What can you guys recommend? I don't have much of a budget (My amp cost £50. I prob don't have more than £100 to spare....)
Maybe to save on cost, I should get just a decoder module? Still- i've no idea where to look!
What do you recommend?
Cheers :)
for your computer or TV (or both?)
Ah sorry.
It's main use will be the Xbox360 however the X360 is our DVD player. Thats a key thing- it needs a digital input. :)
I know nothing, NOTHING!
hahaha. :)
Well surely it must be a Creative or Logitech one?
Personally, I use Creative as I have a Creative card.
I don't think My X360 has a creative card... ;)
OK, well, could you share with us what your xbox 360 in question does have exactly, or is it strictly "need to know" time?
Xbox and Xbox 360 have only an optical digital out. You can hack a coax digital output, but for the purposes, it's reasonably pointless unless you're a hardened audiophile.
Even bottom-end surround amps often have digital ins.
Cygnus, I've got such an amp if you want to swap?
Even a second hand separate dac on ebay seem to go for more than £100 these days which is a shame as they used to be quite a cost effective upgrade for cd players.
Regards
Well, I have an optical>digital converter. :)
i can get a "dac" for £70, which is actually more expensive than my Amp.
Vinylpusher- What amp is it? and what would you like to swap for? Mine's really not up to much. it's decent, does the job, just not for the X360.
The reason for all this is that I didn't check the amp's inputs when I bought it in an emergency :)
I'm thinking that for the purpose, one of those ASDA £35 home theatre systems will do- even if it's not true surround sound since it just uses the old Dolby Surround decoding from stereo.
