Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Battefield 2142 I have bf2 and bf2142. If you're a casual gamer you'll love 2142. lots of cool unlocks and ranks to climb on the ranked servers. As for me, I played bf2 in leagues and ladders for competition play so the whole mmorpg-ish thing kind of makes competing on a level playingfield difficult when one team has a bunch of unlocks and another doesn't. But the game is great fun nonetheless.

BF2 gives my PC a hernia at default settings, even though my specs are above the recommended.

Not for me.
I can play BF2 with most settings on high, BF2142 its medium-low but then I play in Titan mode which sometimes seems to suffer from lag and glitching.
Thanks, I don't like the idea of unlocks in a game that I don't play very much - I'll be outgunned simply because I don't play enough.

Most of my lag seems to come from the game having trouble swapping data in/out, I mean, if I stick in one place for awhile, it runs fine, but the second I start heading out and the game needs to cache new geometry on the fly, it just stutters like hell on any occasion, be it a player running by, a vehicle, a particle effect (rockets), etc....bugs me right to no end, more-so since the game defaulted to high-detail in BF2 for me.
Guess I'll have to download the demo and see for myself, and if it runs just as crap without requiring me to set the detail levels down low, I ain't bothering.

Thats just gay, having in game advertising when you've just spent $100 on the game. If it was a free addon or something, then that would be reasonable.
I agree with that, that's what I feel like when I go to a movie. Pay $10 to watch 10 mins of comercials, then throughout the movie the main chars are drinking some stupid soda or wearing some pointless shoe brand. I'm paying them to advertise to me. Now games are doing it too! Sometimes I wonder why I go outside.

When I had 1gb I noticed that alot in BF2, so I toned the settings down abit until I got 2gb more and could put it back to high.

I know there's some sort of built-in advertising, but I haven't noticed any advertising. I'm too busy shooting.

runs the same as bf2 did for me, cept with prettier graphics so i guess it's an optimization.

unlocks come *MUCH* quicker in 2142 than in bf2. I went up 3-4 ranks and got like 4-5 unlocks within my first 2 hours of play. I've played a total of about 6 hours and have gotten a ton more unlocks. Unlocks aren't deal breakers either. If you kill it's usually not because of the particular weapon you used, but the fact that you probably had the jump on them or are simply better.
I've got the demo and will be giving it a try. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
After a couple days on the demo, it works great on my system (Emachines T6532 with a Geforce 6600 instead of the built-in graphics) but it seemed like just more of the same. Although it ran fine and looked great it just didn't have enough different from BF2 for me to rush out and buy it. I'll be sticking with BF2 for now.
BF2142 is what BF V was for BF1942. No more, but much less.
If you want to spend 50 bucks for an add-On with advertisement, you can buy it. But don't expect anything great in there. They also made this updated unlock system, so as a non-hardcore player you get totally OWNED (tm) by others.

From what i've seen of the demo the networking is still a load of arse. Had to run it 3 imes before i could connect to anything, then it bombed.

I had that problem with BF2, but not problems at all with 2142. So I would recommend anyone to get the demo and try that before buying the game - just to make sure if it works on their machine or not.

A bit sceptical to the unlock thing. I like it the way it is in BF1942, everyone starts equal, so it all comes down to your skill. People who have played a game along time, don't need extra equipment to help them defeat the noobs, they do just fine as is. Actually, it should be the other way around. The longer you play, the worse equipment you get and the slower you get (you're growing old and your gun i rusting), that way the noobs will hava chance...hehe. Only game I've seen do that is Pirates. :)

Downloaded the demo...tried it....and....well....it wasn't very much fun.
