Need For Speed Most Wanted Pisses Me Off

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Need For Speed Most Wanted Pisses Me Off

I was really enjoying my game runnin away from the cops with about 500,000 bounty just about to make an escape. There was one car behind me and a clear road in front of me so I hit a roadblock thing sending a pile of rubble down on my pursuer. Mean while a roadblock of cops had magically appeared and lined up accross the road with a spikestrip. The games in cinematic mode while I'm watchin the stuff fall on the cop. Then when I'm returned control I've got all my tires popped. There goes my 500,000 bounty and I'm forced to pay just under 70,000 for my illegal actions.

That just really ruined the game. Way to go E.A. you pack of fags.

I suggest playing Call of Duty 2 -Online...You'll wind up putting your fist through the monitor(not to mention such language...) ;)

I tried to play Call of Duty 2 on my PC (3800 2.4ghz AMD-64, 1.5gb ram, 6600GT) and it was really really laggy. Even on just medium detail. Gave up after about the first level.

Really laggy online games.....reminds me of BF2, can't get that game to run smoothly without the game *always* getting jumpy on me whenever it comes to actually see'ing someone on my screen who's up in arms.
(I'd have thought upgrading from 1gb to 2gb's of RAM would have fixed it, apparently it didn't)

Sorry to hear some sloppy programming got in the way of yer game experience, I personally haven't touched a Need for Speed game since Porsche Unleashed (PC version, not the horrid PSX one), which was the epitome of the franchise for me.

Makes me curious as to what EA's going to do with their games, some gamers were up in arms once they realized EA was making the latest Battlefield game, BF2142, have dynamic in-game ads........you'd think a product that requires a $40+ purchase wouldn't throw ads in your face. Oh well, I hope EA crashes and burns....of course that obviously won't happen with their current budget.

Its sad how unoptimized their games are also. I mean, XBOX doesnt run alot of the background applications a PC does, and it doesnt have the overhead that a PC does running an operating system such as Windows, but, how can the XBOX with its seriously outdated hardware (700Mhz Celeron, 128mb ram, GF3) run NFS MW at the detail it does. I tried running it at Max detail on my PC and it runs ok, but nowhere as smooth as the XBOX version. (AA off BTW).

Also another thing that annoys me about Most Wanted. If you take a look at cars in your review you will notice that they turn on a dime, even at high speeds. Also I've noticed them clipping other vehicles and even the world -- when I go to drive next a wall I sometimes get caught on invisible things. Even though its a perfectly flat surface. Oh and another thing, ever get caught inside the water tower? I lose a decent bounty with that happenin to me also.

Yep, a real shame what they did to Most Wanted.

The running from the cops portions are GREAT but they don't focus on them nearly enough.
Instead they did the very boring regular races where, if you're very lucky, a police car will notice you.
If you're incredibly lucky, that police car will actually become some kind of challenge without you having to stop moving and lightly run into them a few times.
Don't hit them too hard, or they'll be disabled and no backup will come because they aren't after you until you have a ginormous bounty! (...Even though they'll only be taking a sixteenth of it, anyway).

Even more unfortunate that the cars have no visible damage /except/ the police cars.
Really kills realism (which I assume they are sort of aiming for) when some cars are like tin cans while others are like slabs of titanium.

Getting a good chase going is hopeless, and the rules for them catching you are ridiculous. If they get me into a road block and I'm just escaping as the timer runs out, they should not be able to stop me!

The cops in there are wonderful, and it is obvious that they are (thanks to stellar AI if you go easy on them for the first 10 minutes) one of the game's most fun aspects. The racing mechanics are boring old races with the same course (and the same appearance) repeated a couple thousand times except sometimes *GASP* in reverse!

Speaking of boring races, I find it very weird they did it like that. The game has a huge seamless environment that you can drive around in, so why not have randomly generated courses, or player created courses?

Had they admitted that the fun part is running away from the police in a world richly decorated by stellar car physics, it could have been a great game.

Hmm... Maybe they'll have a spark of creative thinking and make a spin-off with complete focus on police... some kind of really huge scale fun game where you have to evade them over a couple hundred kilometres with none of that ridiculous storyline stuff; just kill the racing component all-together :)

Optimization is worth shuddering about.
I still wonder how it is that my computer handles Half-Life 2 Episode 1 with HDR and every setting cranked up as high as it can go, but it can't handle COD 2 in DirectX 9 mode.

Because of some awful crashes which the tech support folks were completely unhelpful about fixing, I had to play it in DirectX 7 mode.
Not Open GL, not DX 8; DX 7.
It ran without crashing but it looked awful (water was worse than the water in COD 1!).

It's sad, really. VALVe doesn't get the credit they deserve; they have created one of (if not THE only) decently optimized game engines for PCs.

Grand Theft Auto does that to a nice extent, if you ignore the fact the pathfinding AI can be a bit stupid, and the fact with a 4+ star bounty, things can get a bit crazy with cops coming left/right, spike strips wherever you can see, choppers overhead, and possibly the FBI & Army after you...

Nah, GTA doesn't have the nice physics or anywhere near the same fun AI.

This could be the same car the whole way... part of the game could be holding your car in one piece (going with the theory that - surprisingly - you actually can't repair demolished wheels while running from the police).

It could be a pretty amusing pick up and play sort of game...

Then, since EA is annoying, they could go on to build an equally stellar multi player racing thing!
(The cops and robbers thing, with 95% of the server playing cops... maybe a giant and well designed central server network could get 200 players going simultaneously over a huge map, with stuff happening everywhere).

Of course, that's never going to happen.
Who in their right mind would make a car game that's not about racing?
You'd have to be... insane!

Yep... Top game!

Yeah I got pretty good performance out of Half Life 2/Episode 1, their engine is pretty good. One of the best performing games on my hardware has to be Doom 3/Quake 4. The engine used in both those games in wonderful. Even with all those spiffy quality gfx, I get no lag spikes, at least 30+ fps at 1280x1024 with high detail. Even at Ultra its pretty smooth apart from some reduced fps in firefights. Ah well.

The cop chase is probably the only interesting element in Most Wanted. Racing to get up the ladder is lame. Races are lame. Opponents that nos when you nos is lame. Opponents that can drive through cars and world objects is equally lame. Argh! Lameness.

I tried to play Call of Duty 2 on my PC (3800 2.4ghz AMD-64, 1.5gb ram, 6600GT) and it was really really laggy.

I play CoD2 online on my machine (specs in sig) and - having turned the prettier effects down or off - it runs great, and I have a fabulous time.

I'll swap you. :o)

I can run it in DX7 mode fine but thats not the point. I have a card capable of much much more, yet I cant run the game. Even with better hardware than the recommended recommends.

Most wanted? I have it on my PSP, am I to assume the PSP version is cut down? I mean, on the PSP its just like NFS Underground (1, not 2) but with cops from NFS Hot Persuit II.

Also, I find the newer NFS games physics are a tad naff- at least toned down.

For all of you who can, try Test Drive Unlimited :)

...Actually, the cops in TDU are the stupedest things ever. Pull over onto a patch of grass far enough and they just can't get you :) They drive up, and down, and back up the road in front of you, which is pretty funny.

Anyhow, Most Wanted is fun, but its yet another racing game to me.

The car physics in GTA are far superiour to nfsMW. I had a sad at nsfMW because of its crappy, unrealistic physics. At least your car drives realistically in grand theift auto

[I had a sad at nsfMW because of its crappy, unrealistic physics.]
>Do you really need "realistic" physics to get a good game ? NFSMW is an arcade game, and the physics are really good. Did you refused to play games like SEGA RALLY or DAYTONA USA because the physics aren't "realist" ? What about CRAZY TAXI ?

ZZzzzz

Hey Leiden, great work on having 'piss' in your title without it being deleted.

I assumed it would automagically change it to P*&$# or something. Ah well?

Electronic Arts are a packet of cigarettes.

I think what he means to say by "unrealistic physics" is un-detailed movement. That's what the NFS series
consistently has: somewhat 'floaty' physics. GTA SA, on the other hand has much more nimble, responsive and detailed
physics governing its cars. (This is closer to real life, by the way)

No subjectiveness here. That's just fact. Don't argue.

'nuff said.

Really laggy online games.....reminds me of BF2
ive only got a gig of ram at the mo and a slow dsl connection and it runs smooth with very little lag with 64 players. ive found battlefield 2 works better with older graphics drivers though.

Thank you drew, that was exactly what I was saying =)

As for live for speed - I love that game!
