Firefox 2.0 available
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Firefox 2.0 available Release Candidate 3 updated itself yesterday... I suspect that I now have the final version because it gave me a fancy and friendly new "Firefox has been updated" page :)
It's a very nice web browser!
Miraculously, it runs better than Firefox 1 on my less fortunate, 500 (or maybe 600) mHz computer, even with the saved tabs and all that.

Like the "close tab" X but printing of transparent .PNGs is still broken (prints black on transparent areas). And it seems to have built-in spell checker too because it corrects my typing as I type this post :)

I can no longer fit my 30+ open site tabs on a single screen. Looks like I'll be sticking with 1.5 for awhile.
What - Firefox 2?
My Firefox 1.5.0.7 never told me about it. I just clicked the 'Check for Updates' option and it said there were no updates.
What kind of rodent writes new software and doesn't alert you to the fact?

However, even the new version is still too slow for me to use with this site.
I've been using IE exclusively for BB.com for a few months now - FF and BB.com for me are slow and sluggish - funnily enough, BB.com is the only site I have this problem with.

strange but version 2.0 is slower than previous one for me...
@Puki: Yeah, FF 2 is treated as a separate product from FF1. FF 1 is just looking for updates to FF 1. It's a strange way to do it.

That's pretty much the only worthwhile addition I've found in this release, makes me wish the Mozilla team did more to the underlying code, you know, make it faster and what not, a cold boot still takes a good 11 sec on my PC. -.-

According to the most recent update to security-firm Symantec's biannual Internet Security Threat Report, the last six months saw a significant uptick in the number of security vulnerabilities found in web browsers. Leading the way was Firefox, with 47 bugs discovered. Researchers and hackers discovered 38 vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer, 12 in Safari, and seven in Opera.
The numbers cover a six-month period from January 1 through June 30, 2006. Symantec says its data comes from over 40,000 sensors the company has deployed around the world as well as its database of vulnerabilities.
In addition to leading the pack in sheer number of vulnerabilities, Firefox also showed the greatest increase in number, as the popular open-source browser had only logged 17 during the previous reporting period. IE saw an increase of just over 50 percent, from 25; Safari doubled its previous six; and Opera was the only one of the four browsers monitored that actually saw a decrease in vulnerabilities, from nine to seven.

I don't believe in GOOD webbrowsers. Whatever browser I use in whatever OS. They all suck. FireFox is no exception. So, are there really some improovements that makes it worth my trouble to download FireFox 2? (And is the MacOS version also available)?
