female programmers

I believe I've asked this question before, perhaps sometime last year or the year before that, but I keep running into the same problem.

So here it is again, just like Christmas and New Years, not to mention the start of the new TV season, for the year 2006,

Are there any females programming in BlitZ?
If there are, speak out, let yourself be heard!
Also, mention any other products that you use, and if you have created any games, let us know!

Banshee is responsible for some very cool Blitz3D demos including a multiplayer sailing thingy.

I know a female C++/C# programmer but sadly she doesn't use Blitz. Perhaps I can get her to learn it...

I know a handful of female programmers but they all seem to dislike blitz over C++,C, JAVA etc...

Somehow the world of coding is a world of men. It's more or less the same in the musicbiz btw. :P

Not now Bananarama have reformed.

Are they also the producers/composers/technicians?

When I was studying musictech, the first year had about 50 students (divided between musictech and audiodesign (which is more like studiotechnology)).

Iirc the females were:
- one small muppet'esque girl driving a hummer car :P
- one nice looking violin player brunette who tragically died just after the study
- one ugly ET'esque girl from Russia, living in Berlin, having a temporary room in Amsterdam
- one nice salestype blonde who actually belonged in the next year

So, that makes 8% female in the first year.
The muppet left during year two, and in year three some tuba-playing (and fragile when receiving bad critics on her homework) girl joined (can you imagine? a semi-nice blonde playing a TUBA! :P). So we're still having 4 females. Meanwhile a number o'guys left (being too stupid, other interests, touring with a band, etc.) so the relative number of females would rise ofcourse, but iirc there were never more than four of 'em.

Now, I don't know how these figures are for code-studies. Ofcourse, information technology is a large area, and only a part of it is actual code.. anyone who can say something about the number of coding females in those classrooms?


(Iirc there was actually one asm-coding female in the PC demoscene.. :P)

My friend who I work with is a female programmer who uses PHP and ASP.NET; maybe I'll get around to introducing her to Blitz sometime.

just think of it: wouldn't these low female figures be the same for tuba players all around the world? :D

They're only barely classed as singers.

Doubt they'll be reading this anyway, probably busy shopping or on the phone.

There were *3* girls in our college doing music tech.

I fancied all of them...

...but they were all quite nice.

One of them was a guitar player who left with their band in the final month of the course. haha!

There were only 3 girls in my cohort CIS class in college :

- One blonde chick was pretty hot. Had some serious mental issues (litterally did....something about her childhood...) though. Was a lot older than all of us at the time but didn't look the age though (she was about 28-29). Unfortunately, she developed brain cancer....disappeared for a few semesters for treatment, and returned back as a totally wierd new person.... She talked big and made her self appeared very experience in the coding field, made fun of us for actually understanding C++, but during labs and tests showed nothing to brag about. She never graduated...such a tragedy.

- African-American chick, really hot but kinda quiet and distant from all of us. She was a few semesters ahead of us, and was proven to be a competant programmer and actually understood the concepts of it. I had to helped her out a couple of times for some of her coding projects. Develop a close friendship with her but after she graduated, never heard from her since. I think she would of did pretty decent in the coding field...

- Another female was a mother of 2, in her early thirties. She understood the concepts and theory, but couldnt code for sh*t. She did however, put out the most effort and i think had she had more time with it may have been better....

So in the end, i personally still think that females are still behind in the coding field. And its not because they lack the skill or intelligence (or maybe it is...i dunno), but rather, they don't seem to have the drive or seemingly undivided absolute interest in it as a lot of males are. To accomplish a certain coding work, guys would work on it day in and day out non-stop.....I just never met a female that would do the same as a programmer.

Ironically though, my very first programming teacher in Computer Science was a female, and she knew her sh*t but then again shes been doing this stuff since the 60s....

That's because they have a life :-D. Seriously though, I think the reason why you don't see many female programmers is because computers in general are seen as boys toys. I only became a programmer because I was interested in computer games as a kid - most girls didn't play computer games when I was a kid and this is the end result.

yeah Game Boy...that about sums it up for most of us :)
