Yeah, makes me wonder. There was also another Bill Gates video where he actually [gasp]praised the Macintosh?![/gasp] After all these years of rivalry of Apple vs. Microsoft, Mr. Gates praises the Mac?! What a twisted mind you have, Mr. Billionaire Gate$. Hehe... :D

Well, in that light -- it's important to remember that for the longest time, the largest software producer for the Mac was... Microsoft.
Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, etc.

Ofcourse! If it wasn't for Apple (Steve Jobs in particular), Microsoft would still be developing BASIC for Altair. Windows didn't do that back in the good old days.

Windows 3.11 was the best version of windows IMHO, it all went wrong when they merged MS-DOS with Windows and made Windows 95.
Windows 3.11 and Windows95 had a similar setup- Windows ran INSIDE dos on both of these systems, only in win95 you couldnt "Exit to dos" anymore.
+ 98 ran from DOs too (remember the f8 boot menu had "command prompt only", hey so did ME didn't it? It was just 2000/NT/XP (and no doubt vista) that don't run from does.
im sure me was the first to remove that feature, i think ME was a cross between 98 and 2000.
ME was horrible. We use to have it on our family computer, blue screen errors all the time ... infact I dont even want to talk about it.
No, ME was pretty much Windows 98 with whatever junk they found in the attic bolted on top of it -- its entire foundation was the Win9x kernel, not the NT/2000 one.
ME is also the prime example what happens when the marketing department decides it's time to release another OS, without any technical reasons for doing so. (Which begs the question -- is Vista going to be Windows ME 2.0?)

My question exactly. Seems like Vista wants to mix together ME, 2000, AND XP, and roll it all into one, yet use the same interface that Mac, KDE Linux, and Windows XP all use, it's just a big mumbo-jumbo OS, IMHO. Should be cleaned up by the time that it releases by the CES: 2007 (assuming that it releases during Consumer Electronics Show week).
Except that they will supposedly start shipping Vista to the volume license holders starting November 2006... Somehow I doubt that that release will be significantly different from the current RC's.
The whole point of RC is that the features are in and MS have deemed it stable enough to manufacture - but know they ought to give it a test run first. What you see in RC1 is what you get.
ME actually uses what is dubbed internally as MSDOS 8 (7 got scrapped in beta stage iirc)... just that ME went out of the way to hide all the DOS aspects - ie make it look like NT, except use the 9x kernel.
It's actually a good step up from 9x at a lower level, but there are some dodgy technologies tacked on that completely destabilises the entire OS to a point of it becoming unusable. Most of these technologies were refined and saw their way into XP. Vista offers a Linux/Mac-ish interface... there really is nothing else remarkable about it next to XP.
