What do you think? Too many warning stripes on these floors or not - This is just a test slap-together to see how the different parts sit together but I can't decide myself whether or not to use them for all floors or simply the lifts (moving platforms). I've half a mind I'm just sitting too close to the screen and losing the balance a bit.

Looks great.

I like it the way it is. Though perhaps I would not use the warning stripes for all levels. Especially outdoor ones.

No grisu - this is just quick test...the backgrounds are from the first (outside)level - I just wanted a quick look at how these later metal/tech pieces sit together with all these warning stripes going off everywhere...can't make my mind up.

Everything looks great to me except for the brown repeating dirt texture. The tiling is too obvious, maybe try a more subtle texture?

I wouldn't use the warning strip anywhere but on lifts... I'd like to see something more plate-steely for regular floors... its just 'too much' everywhere.

yep Dampe - that's what's nagging me..think I'll scrap 'em.

great graphics.. :)

regards to the floor though, I think it may be too much.. maybe tone down the yellow, if you really want to keep the current floor..

I think it might help if you reduced the height of the black and yellow stripes (and obviously not plaster them everywhere). I also think they should be on danger areas, not just lifts, but platforms that are not on ground level.

Looks nice though :)

What about some more detail for the woods in the back, rather than only the gradient it has now? Doesn't have to be a full-blown wood with 100% details, but perhaps some minor shade differences here and there? perhaps a darker shade for a complete tree (not just the outlines) ?

Thanks for the input guys - Stripes are going.

hey this game looks great, more info ?

What Perturbatio and CS_TBL said.

The lack of detail in the trees is the first thing I noticed rather than the stripes. Even though it is a distant haze it still needs some detail.

Looking very nice though.

it don't need any detail... but it does need another layer of background in front of it to push it all the way back.

Hey that looks great :D

Well if we're on the subject of mentioning things about the pic other then the warning stripes.....I feel the background is a bit too chaotic for its purpose, I don't know if it's just something that doesn't work in a still shot, but does in motion......or the fact it doesn't fit in with the style of the rest of the artwork.....I can't pinpoint what I'm trying to explain, so I'll leave it at that.

There is a visual contrast between the style of the background and the style of the foreground... this is the out-of-balance feeling that Genexi2 is feeling.

There are 5 distinct styles in this screenie... The PC, which is a sprite rendered from 3D, the foreground which is mildly detailed and muted in tone, the doodads like the rocks and giant ray-gunny thing which are somewhere inbetween, the first BG which is very abstracted and minimal, and the second background which is abstracted and complex.

They all clash with eachother.... I assume it is true of all levels, because you wouldn't want to shift styles between levels that drasticly... You could get away with maybe 2 styles... one for active objects like the pc and enemies, and one for the level itself..... But even that is kind of pushing it.

common finish this game, we want to play it! Yeah only stripes on moving areas.

I wouldn't go with the yellow/black stripes at all. They are disturbing too much the rest of the scenery in my opinion. And if you want them in i only would use them for the floating paltforms. But as said before i wouldn't use them at all...

It's like talking to a brick wall here sometimes. I only needed an opinion on those stripes - I explained that shot is a slap-together. It has all the props/scenery from the first woodlands level but is using a quick test section of map I made using those tech-parts just so I could drop it into my game quickly to view it. It's a jumble up and the game won't look like this at all. Does anybody really think I'd have grass coming out of metal floors? Or hedges growing there? I hope it's clicked - but thanks for the comments any way!

well. I assumed you weren't going to have grass growing out of the ground, Hujiklo. My comments still apply. Or, if they -really- don't... then a whole new problem comes in.

You must change the entire look of the game between levels. This is also a bad idea.

It is one way or the other. Either my comments apply, or you change the entire graphical style between levels.

Even if not. The outside bits I see don't mesh well together, and the inside bits I see don't mesh well... and the PC doesn't fit with either style.

I won't bother next time. What the hells a slap together anyway? Now you've explained and added an insult. Uncalled for.

Yep - okay I take that back - perhaps I didn't explain the reason for the jumbled state of the screenshot with the text at the top of the thread properly. Time is tight and I'm rushing. sorry....and thanks for the comments - stripes are history now except for the moving platforms.

I really like the background and the player ! They are in an artistic style. But the floor is not good.

;)

what in the world happened to the picture?

Lol! yeah what happened?

Halloween is near... lol :))))
