woo, woo - woo, woo - woo, woo - woo, woo.
HOWEVER! Read this from the official site...
On September 12th we have shipped a Goldmaster version of Gothic 3 for replication. However, due to several problems that got known only afterwards no production has taken place, instead we decided to create another, new goldmaster.
This new master is currently (Sep 21st) still being worked on!
Therefore, no one has had any access to the version that will start selling on October 13th in various European territories.
No testing (by external persons) of this version can have been done. All test results that have been published up to now are based on the scrapped goldmaster or in many cases on even older preview versions.
For anyone who doesn't know much about Gothic 3 - go watch some videos:

eh, what was that "Boiled Sweets"? Run that by me again.
Ah, my understanding is it is still being sold in 4 days - probably just not finished/playtested properly. Still, I'm up for it.

Self-touch
woo, woo - woo, woo - woo, woo - woo, woo.
I have to say I have played a LOT of games and I still rate Gothic II as the most impressive/enjoyable game I have ever played.
I have been waiting for Gothic III for a long time. It's going to be serious f******* awesome.
self-touch????
Will get this game too.
Hope it will blow away Buglivion.
HERE IS THE COUNTDOWN TIMER:

Game are pimping it too:

Never heard of this game..
Weetbix.
Holy crap where have you been!!!?!!?!?!?!?
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Someone's excited:)
Have they released a rating?
This looks dandy.
Here's a link to a German video, showing the game at different gfx settings. You need to click the link "kostenloser Download" in order to open up the download window:
http://www.gamestar.de/downloads/videos/gothic_3_technik/1465037/gothic_3_technik.htmlThe game seems to be very hardware intensive (as Oblivion).
You should have at least one gig of ram even on the lowest settings!
I have a suspicion that it'll be more buggy than Oblivion.
Total War:Medieval2.
Now that's a game to look forward to.
It will definately have bugs. The mag articles I have read state that the pre-gold version they tested had quite some AI bugs. So that Monsters don't react to the players attacks etc.
I doubt that it will be worse than Buglivion though. But we will see that soon.
Hello.
I'm thoroughly disappointed - I was expecting a skinny, white-face, black-jeaned, pointy-boot wearing hero who'd recite bad poetry at people, and who would then not go off and kill himself.
Tut tut.
Goodbye.
Spec...
Minimum:
Processor AMD/P4 with at least 2 GHz
1024 MB RAM
Graphics card with at least Shader Model 1.4 and 128 MB
Optimum:
Processor AMD/P4 with at least 3 GHz

Well I've been holding out upgrading my machine till I saw the required spec for G3, I have to play this game!
Seems that my gfx card (x1600 pro 512) is man enough just need a new cpu and ram.
So selling an Athlon 2600 and a pair of matched Corsair CMX256A DDR PC3200, anyone?
Sorry, but bad news for the americans out here:
World of Gothic:
English Translation: (not sure if there are errors, but the sense should be right)
World of Gothic (Germans biggest Gothic Fansite):
Is the release date for all countries, or just for the germans for testing?
Johann (Jowood Member):
Everyone will receive a firstclass release version, and most of them at the same time. But only in Europe. No one ist 'tester'.
Stefan (Jowood Member):
European Release will be everywhere on the same date. America will follow in November.

btw, i have preordered it and will receive it on octobre th 13th at around 8 am :)
I have never understood these "Middle Ages" fantasy games, or movies around the theme.. why anybody would want to go back in those times, there was no electrisity, lasers, spaceships... that no no, games must look beyond such of Harry Potter wizardy times :)
The middle ages symbolizes a time in human history with a perfect balance of 'magic' and 'science' ... humans were begining to form all the modern sciences but they were all based around magical practices. Magic has always captivated humans, from the first religions to the modern day pagan.
High Fantasy is popular for a lot of reason, but mostly because it offers an escape from reality, where magic and fantastic creatures live, and where anyone can make a name for themself through who they are. Not through meaningless faceless jobs.
People want to believe that they can do great things.
games must look beyond such of Harry Potter wizardy times
Ummm... Harry Potter is set in the present.
On topic, I'm not sure about Gothic 3, the screenshots look nice enough, but I seem to recall buying and then returning Gothic 2. It wasn't nearly polished enough for my liking.
I'll bet you anything that, most like all Jowoods other released titles, it's not going to even work out of the box.
Any takers?
I didn't notice any major problems with Gothic 1 and 2 - The German versions probably did have problems as the UK releases were already patched versions at release.
I am suspicious that Gothic 3 might be a bit buggy - but, if so, they'll patch the sucker up.
I got the Gothic 2 demo, but I can't play it. It's so difficult to even just move, and then it just seems so unbalanced for new players, how I get ganged by enemies.
It's not unbalanced - it is the opposite of Oblivion - enemies don't level with you - you have to work up to their level. In each Gothic game, you are incredibly weak compared to a lot of other things - you have to give it time. You will do a lot of running away in the beginning - once you start getting hard, it is great.
The specs are ultra high... You ain't just paying for the game in most cases, your paying to upgrade too. The game will probably cost you about £300 once you've finished that. Looks impressive though.
Optimum:
Processor AMD/P4 with at least 3 GHz
1,5 GB RAM
Graphics card with at least 256 MB (ATI X1600 / Geforce 6800)
Wish they would stop with the 3ghz+ crap, my 2.21ghz AMD64 3600+ outperforms some of the higher-ghz stuff....
I'm just curious as to what exactly you'll be see'ing with min-spec, as min-spec on Oblivion meant you got to see about...10ft in front of your character, with the majority of the effects turned off, and that was it.
Rumours of bugs galore, overinflated system requirements, this has JoWood written all over it. I was really looking forward to this too, but I'm not so sure now. I'm beginning to think that Gothic 1 and 2 benefitted greatly from being released in Germany yonks before they were released across Europe and beyond because - as Puki says - most of the bugs were fixed by the time we got it.
Looks impressive though.
Yeah, well a SpeedTree/SpeedGrass License doen't make a game. Just neat screenshots.
Thats not true of oblivion... I only met the min specs and you can turn most of the stuff all the way down and still keep what lets you play the game... sure it didn't look as good with just the ground on in the distance, no grass, and all that jazz... but it was playable and enjoyable none-the-less.
important note, I don't care about fancy graphics, if the grahpics are 'good' enough to make the game playable, I am happy. Thats a very subjective thing tho. Cause if the game is like... Red Faction, then you need more than doom level graphics for the geomod, on the other hand, I would have been happy with Final Fantasy 10 looking like an SNES game, as nothing about the game required it didn't... could even have been like an NES game.
SO I can understand if someone wouldn't enjoy oblivion with the min specs... I'm just saying that it was playable and didn't get in the way of the gameplay when the gfx was turned down.
The game looks dull. The graphics are nice but it looks flat and unimpressive. The gameplay looks rather sluggish for a so called faster paced game and the animations are terrible! The story sounds cool though.
I'm buying it - bugs or no bugs.
I loved Gothic 1 and 2 and can only hope that Gothic 3 is just as good.
Best we all take a look at the countdown:
http://www.jowood.com/gamers/en/games/gothic3/jw_g3_counter.swfwoo, woo - woo, woo - woo, woo - woo, woo.
However,
It is somewhat suspicious when a game is released early with nobody having reviewed it prior to release.
I just hope (if the game is bad) that the media is easy to lift out of it.
If it is as good as Gothic 2 it will be awesome. I believe it's better in so many ways.
[rant]
Look -- if you don't like it, don't trust Jo Wood, are scared of monsters, wet the bed still, avoid cracks in the pavement (sidewalk for those US type), have a "j" in your name etc, etc don't buy it. And stop whinging! In fact buffer off outta this thread ;-)
[/rant]
I wonder how many bugs will be left in the first release. You known it's Gothic... :O)
Well, from the statements of piranha bytes the bugged test version was because of their art of working: In fact they are working simultanious on different parts of the game, and just at the end of the development they put it all together. the test Version of the Magazines was a Version at the beginning of this process. The current state (as I have spoken with some lucky guys who already could play the release Version) is major bug free, just some minor bugs here and there are left. So I look forward to play it :)
It is somewhat suspicious when a game is released early with nobody having reviewed it prior to release.
PCZone has a review this month. Quite liked it as far as I remember.
Just wait a month or two and then pick it as low budget version... ;)
This game just doesnt look very "polished". And in all those videos you would think they could show more combat.
What little combat I saw didnt look too impressive.
In any event, I will probably pick it up.
PCZone has a review this month. Quite liked it as far as I remember.
Right, I'm off to buy PC Zone.
You can all sleep easy that I shall purchase the game and check it over.
One rumour I have heard is that they have removed the ability to climb from the game - that was something I enjoyed in the first 2 games. People who have played Chronicles of Riddick, but not the Gothic games will get the idea - same sort of climbing system.
Oooh, I can't wait to have a go on it.
Hold on a minute.
Has it really been reviewed in PC Zone - it isn't mentioned on the website with the current reviews and when I searched the game it said 'Not Reviewed Yet'.
Anyone have this month's PC Zone to confirm a review in there?
Wait a hippo-sausage minute!
Gothic is being released on 13th Oct.
That is Friday, 13th.
Now, I am going to start to reduce my excitment here as I am tempting fate that I will run out of the store with Gothic 3 tucked into my best nappy, and then suddenly a rather large lorry mounts the pavement and squashes me - and a whole crowd of people mug my dying, squashed, body for the game.
Yeh, I know what time it is.
Gothic 2 was one of my favourite games of all time. Lets hope 3 is as good :)Going to have to have a UK copy shipped to me I think.
I'll have a check on PCZone when I get in tonight...
May have been dreaming ;)
The specs are ultra high... You ain't just paying for the game in most cases, your paying to upgrade too. The game will probably cost you about £300 once you've finished that. Looks impressive though.
Wait until you see the requirements for Vanguard! I heard it runs at 8 fps on the best Dell laptop. Not sure if that's saying much, but still...
What did i say! :O) Download your first patch please... http://files.filefront.com/Gothic3+RelUp+EURzip/;6011153;;/fileinfo.html
I have the PC Zone review:
It scored 85% - which is a good score.
Plus points:
Gorgeous visuals;
Open-ended gameplay;
Impressive world;
Replayability; - this is a feature of the Gothic games
Negative points:
Frustratingly tough combat;
Somewhat buggy.
Well, the previous Gothic games had tough combat to begin with - it is a case of your character becoming more powerful as you play and is a good system.
Somewhat buggy - well, we were expecting that. Patches expected.
I'm setting off to buy Gothic 3 soon.
I am somewhat concerned that the countdown timer is now counting back up again and is still saying 'Coming soon':
http://www.jowood.com/gamers/en/games/gothic3/jw_g3_counter.swf
Oh yeh!!!
The release dates for the European language versions have been fixed. The game will hit stores Oktober 13th, 2006 in most European countries. Despite the withdrawn gold master the production of the game could be finished in time and the packages are already on their way to your local game store.
The following release dates have been announced and confirmed by our publisher JoWooD:
UK: 10/13/2006
USA: 11/20/2006
Germany: 10/13/2006
Austria: 10/13/2006
Switzerland: 10/13/2006
France: 10/13/2006
Italy: 10/13/2006
Spain: 10/13/2006
Australia: to be announced
Japan: to be announced
So finally, the long time of waiting is over. We hope you all enjoy the game.
'Game' stores have confirmed they have the Gothic 3 - it is there, ready to buy.
woo, woo - woo, woo - woo, woo - woo, woo.
I would wait till there is a second patch... :O)
I ordered my copy yesterday(the gamestore actually got the game yesterday) and right after work I'm going to the postoffice to pick it up. :o)
So puki, let's see who completes the game first ;o)
(Heh, they also released a collectors edition, with an A3-size map, amulet and making of DVD's)
Installing... please wait... :o)
The game or the patch? ;O)
Installing... please wait... :o)
Not fair! I'm still at work...
I feel I'm catching a cold so perhaps I may leave earlier ;o)
I have returned home - I searched an entire city for the more expensive collector's edition. Nobody had it.
I am most upset that I had to settle for the standard version of the game and feel that the software industry is predating on me. No doubt I will see the more expensive version tomorrow and will be tempted into buying it - thus having 2 copies of the same game.
At least my PC meets the recommended specs for the game.
Now, I don't want any phone calls this afternoon and tonight. However, people may commence phoning me on Sunday.
I got a small black window, followed by:
"Memory Access Violation".
Well, I am using Perfect Disk to surgically defrag my games drive and then I shall proceed to install the game and apply the patch in a clinical fashion.
I will check all drivers and confirm system readiness before I commence play.
I was a bit peeved at the generic batch quality settings - then I spotted 'imagequality.ini'.
Looks like we can tinker with the game here.
There is the 'ge3.ini' to tinker with too. Possibly 'events.ini' as well.
I've already given myself 9,999,999 in gold and set a 'God' mode with Omatic.
I've not got into the media files yet.
Where can I change the gold parameter?
I did it manually with Cheat 'O Matic - made in 1997 - I like it - it is small and cute.
You can get it all over the internet - also known as 'comatic' or 'omatic'.
Install it and love it - once you have rigged your gold you can then use it to modify your health and 'lock it' for a simulated 'god' mode.
Oh yeh!
With regard to ini files - Gothic 3 creates one in My Documents like Oblivion did.
In fact, with regard to quality settings - you have to select 'Custom' to be able to get a page of goodies to tinker with - rather than the batch settings.
Yeah, well a SpeedTree/SpeedGrass License doen't make a game. Just neat screenshots.
Since i don't have the game, that's all i got to base my opinion on ;o). I never will get it. Specs are stupidly high...
heh, Puki you need to play a game properly not cheat all the time. Your as bad as my wife. She reads the end of the book first, then skips through the middle and finaly reads it from start to finish.
Where's the fun in that!!!!
1.1 patch out! Get it here - www.gothic3.com!
GO GO GO
It has been available since the day of release. The game is still a choppy, unoptimized, bug-filled mess.
The game is still a choppy, unoptimized, bug-filled mess.
And, sadly, that still doesn't make it one of JoWood's worst travesties.
I really like the game and style.
But as said: Wait some months and get it as low budget in a much more polished state.
I've been playing the game non-stop since friday.
Great game, although many bugs - especially the savegame corruption bugs :(
I get sun flare even when underground but more worrying is the screen 'white outs' when I face in a certain direction.
The game is slow ( running on an Athlon 2700+ and Geforce6800GT ) and so far I am very unimpressed, it does not look or play anything as well as Oblivion.
Also the 'No Loading Screens' hype means that the game just freezes now and then to load more content...I would rather have the odd loading screen than that.
This game has other qualities that makes it superior to Oblivion in my mind.
Like actually being scared in the wilderness and when entering caves for one :p
They really should optimize the "quick" load/save functions though, as it takes 5 sec +- to save and over a minute to load a savegame :(
heh, we get it late in the US and get the real proper working version without the bugs :)
I have yet to order my copy from the UK. Gothic 2 in my opinion was better than Morrowind, and I'm kind of hoping for the same compared to Oblivion.
I liked the free roaming missions of oblivion but never wanted to go back to the main story after the lousy first oblivion gate and hearing that they were all more or less the same :(
So I played the little side story missions for 40 odd hours instead.
I like Oblivion, and I still play it, but Bethesda really screwed up so many little tiny things. So so so so so many little things...
I hope Gothic 3 will have a demo, so I can give it a shot :)
I just brought Gothic 3 in a five hour gap between lessons at college. Be able to play it at around sixish. I hope its a good game :D
I just got home to play it again all night.
Going to watch the football too though.
Right, just going to rip my clothes off and get the baby oil squirted on.
I'm probabaly fairing better than most as I am cheating - The Gothic games are always punishing on beginner characters - you die a lot, so save a lot. Your character is always pretty puny to begin - within a few days of play, you'll be fitter and stronger and will be able to lesson.
I don't die so I don't have to worry much, plus my character moves faster and can Large himself across the landscape. Plus I can beat up every other character in the game - so I have tons of great weapons and stuff.
@puki - where's the joy in that? you buy a game, and the first thing you do is cheat it to pieces?
Its actually not that hard, you just have to think a little about how to approach different encounters :)
Puki
Heh - you did that with Oblivion, and then complained that you were getting bored with it.
Gothic 3 is a pretty decent game - when it works. It's a bit too "generic fantasy land" for my taste; orcs, goblins, wizards, magic swords... Yawn. Having said that, I'm looking forward to Neverwinter nights 2, which is just as generic. The game is like the broken offspring of Fable and Oblivion; a fairly simplistic game masquerading as a deep and complex RPG, and the more you play it, the more its shallowness becomes apparent. On the plus side, the game has a far greater sense of danger than Oblivion, which makes exploring the world far more exciting and just goes to show how much better Oblivion would have been without all that auto-leveling nonsense. All in all, the world of Gothic 3 just feels more real to me.
However, I'm shocked about just how unbalanced the game is. I can liberate a city by wiping out the entire occupying army of Orcs using only my trusty sword and magic, but a single wild boar can kill me before I can even get a hit in. I've noticed that one of the best strategies is to lure a couple of boars into a city, stand back, and watch the slaughter. Wolves can handily kick your arse, even when you're powerful enough to wipe out hoards of undead and their demonic leader without breaking a sweat.
Yeh, be warned wild boars can kill quest characters too. I've seen one do it.
I met a hunter in a stone circle - the guy who asks you to kill the shy deer. A wandering wild boar killed him in front of my eyes.
I promptly reloaded.
However, who's to say you won't come across a dead character anywhere in the game whereby there is no fix?
I happened to see him die. However, I could have gone off exploring for ages (doing loads of quests) then come back to him to find him dead.
You are right about the fact that wild boars can enter encampments and towns - this is most worrying - characters that give you quests can die.
Now, it seems that this has been realised in development as I note you can complete quests without being set them - which is good - but it does remove the questing fun of it.
In fact, I just remembered how to give you a noticeable performance boost for this game (and others) - new thread coming soon.
I just tested it and the result was quite blatant.
!!!Minor spoiler!!!
I used a boar to kill off the "slave camp guards" for the rebels. Just lured it into the city and he killed them nicely in a series of stunlocks. One of the named NPC's were a better fighter and were able to kill it.
Quest done, no murder charges on my head :D
Eh, how is that a minor spoiler? "JustLuke" raised it in his post.
I've cheated my skill points - I can now train as much as I like - apparantly, Gothic 3 has no level capping - I shall be testing this. Currently my character has a strength of 300.
I've been busy playing Football Manager 2007. However, there was a new Gothic 3 patch released a few days ago:
We are now up to version 1.08:
