I don't like the new Google side-bar

I noticed today that when you search for something in Google, you now get a 'side-bar' on the left of the window, instead of having those options running along the top of the window.

I don't like it.

I suggest we start a petition against this disgraceful breach of human rights.

It only happens in Firefox - it works as normal in IE.

Why does it only happen with Firefox? How do I make it stop doing that?

Well, the 'Tabs' at the top (Web, Images, Group, etc) move into a column on the left-hand. The column is 'framed' - it is just like it was meant to do it.

I'm not running any extensions or anything.

Are you perhaps searching from the Google homepage?
Speaking of which, did anyone notice those tabs that they added and then promptly disappeared a few weeks ago? ... And has anyone else had that Google Calendar item working? For some reason it won't show me my calendar (just gives me an empty one), but I can still add entries to mine from it. It inexplicably started working once and stopped a day later, then it worked again when those tabs materialized, but it stopped working when they disappeared.
Some fancy mouse-over effects for the different items were added and they have stayed since that anomaly.


Now that I'm thinking about it, I did notice a very different looking Google search result than usual a few weeks ago, but it inexplicably came and went the same way as those tabs.

Use a decent browser. Firefox has jumped the rails of what-it-was-originally-intending-to-achieve long ago.

The 1st and only major release is too different from... what, exactly?

And the 2.0 Beta isn't really very significantly different either. (Though it is a beautiful release with many subtle but notable improvements).
I'd love to know what people mean when they say this.

Are you going by how Firefox has expanded since its first ever Alpha release or something?

If you want a bare web browser, install Linux and use Epiphany. That thing is great :)


Besides, there aren't that many browsers out there with extensions available that actually change the look and feel of Google. (Of which there are actually quite a number).

Originally it was fast, stable, and secure. Its no longer fast thats for sure, and last time I heard it had a massive security flaw. I mean, I could turn ActiveX off in Internet Explorer too :/ So what makes it so special. I'd prefer I.E. any day.

That security flaw turned out to be a hoax.
