Molebox Pro

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Molebox Pro

.hi guys..I'm going to buy this, for use with upcoming B3D project as well as others, for different applications than just games...does anyone have Molebox Pro, and if so is there any issues about it, realized trough use??

Um, ignore my post in another thread - it is all lies.

I'm using it for my project (Bad,Bad Bots!) and it seems to be working great.

Minor glitch. If there's an older version of the program in the same directory then Molebox seems to pull from the older version even if you change the name & extension. The solution (which I note in my readme file) is to delete any older versions from the same directory.

Great product, well worth the purchase.

Don't buy it, it's a complete waste of money. It's not secure and causes all kinds of crappy problems when patching. So save your money and let people have access to your assets if they want - they can get them anyway!

yeah really... your assets aren't worth anything anyway... If your game is good enough, people will recognise your assets... its like free subliminal advertisement.

@DampeS8N, How you know it it worth or not anything, and how you can say such a thing even you actually dont know what is all about..I simply ask question about possible users of Molebox Pro, and possible issues regarding program usage and thats all..

I've been using Molebox for almost two years and did not have any problems with it. Haven't been using their patchin method as it was much easier to just send the users a new exe when necessary.

Simply says, it' fine to use MoleBox for your game, the game will work as expected and it IS pretty stable.

It's another thing to talk about "Protect Your Game", I pack the media in extra pack and use Obsidium to encrypt my EXE.

I've used Molebox Pro for years. No issues to report.

Apparently there have been problems running Molebox EXEs on some Win98 systems, although I've never encountered this issue myself.

One problem I've seen with molebox: when following a download link to a moleboxed executable on a website and choosing 'run', it wasn't able to locate any of the embedded media and crashed with an error.
Choosing 'save-as' first and then running the local copy works without problems.

(Both under Windows 2000 and windows XP)

One additional issue, is that at least one release of Molebox cause the moleboxed executable to be incorrectly recognized as a virus, after several anti-virus programs included the signature in their definition files because of some moleboxed malware that did the rounds a year or two ago.
The current release is probabably clear, but something like that could always happen again...

I had a similar thing with a Visual Basic EXE a few years ago - got lots of support e-mails complaining that Kaspersky Antivirus was reporting my program as being a virus.

I don't think that anti-virus programs screwing it up are a fair reflection on us, or our software. The onus remains with the antivirus software makers to get it right.

I have MoleBx Pro - no probs.

AND I don't agree with Indipath and DampeS8N for one second, but I'm too lazy (tired) right now to tell them why.

Well, Indipath and DampeS8N are actually joking just for fun, don't mid them so much.

As to False Positive Virus Warning, this also happens to UPX and UPack, so it's becoming insane as more packers will get kicked on their ass.

works great never had any problems.

indiepath: It's not secure

can you get to the protected content then? because the average user sure as hell can't. i for one couldnt be bothered to crack it just to get a few models and textures.

Actually... I was half-joking..

There is a fine band of game assets that are 'worth' stealing. That is, they are good enough to steal, but aren't so good that everyone will know you stole them.

In general, stolen artwork is obvious. If your game has good 'parts' that you think people will use, ask yourself if you fit into that band.

If your game is popular and distinct... (Lets say, like Gish) and someone rips-off your work... people will know and oust them.

If the game isn't popular at all and has very sub-par art and assets (Or even par) then people will not steal them. Who would steal crappy assets?

But yeah... I was mostly joking.

The only problem I know is: you cannot test a (moleboxed) folder for existance: If fileType("images")=2 will not work, instead you need to test a dummy file in the folder.
