I've developed a ciphering system and I'm curious if anyone wants to try deciphering the above code.

I will buy the max3d module (when available) for the first person to post a solution.

What's the key-length?

What's the point with a 26 key-length? You can feed it into a brute-forcer and crack it yourself.

Ok, try :) I don't think you can. My hypothesis is that without knowing the method then the code can not be cracked.

It's a short message and without a crypth it's very difficult, i've tried a straight ascii shunt and a few fractal patterns based on a seed of 0, but nothing yet.

Or in other words, what is the complete character set to which your enciphering method can be applied?

Thanks, I believe we are dealing with either a polyalphabetic substitution cipher, or a transposition cipher. Or possibly a combination of both.
If it's simple, it'll be like Vigenère or Playfair. If it's complex, it'll be like Enigma.

Cryptology is something of a hobby of mine and since there's a prize on offer, I'll have a crack at it - provided I can find some time...

42 is the ultimate answer to the Ultimate question. Unfortunatly the Earth (an organic computer) was destroyed two minites before the mice could find out what the ultimate question was.

It turned out tho that the Human race accidently crashed on earht two million years before the program to find the question was complieted, and corrupted the answer anyway.

The most complete answer therefore was the one that Arther and Ford tried to get from the original inhabitants of earth with was EDIT:"6 by 9".

So what a lot of people who read the book fail to notice is that it isnt the universe or the answer that is messed up, but that Humanity is, and via them the question

It's been a long time, so I could be wrong, but I thought it was "9 by 6" because I recall some nerd with too much time on his hands worked out that 9 by 6 actually *is* 42. In base 13. And that would only work if it were 9 by 6.

Well I know it isnt 8by6 or 9by6, because just thinking about it now, you dont know its the wrong question until the second number, so it might by 6by9 or 6by8, but same here not read it since its release.

The book actually says 6 times 9 = 42

...Which coincidentally happens to be true in base-13, but rather than there being some deeper meaning: when asked, Douglas Adams has stated he just grabbed two random numbers that sounded good, and the whole point was supposed to be that the meaning of the universe didn't make sense, or that the universe itself was based on a false premise.
