Coding competition at Boolean Soup

I've been asked to post a message here from one of the Moderators at Boolean Soup.

"Hey all.

I have interesting news - in 2 days a theme-based game development competition will kick off, with big prizes. It will take place at http://www.booleansoup.com/ a nice game developers community with game galleries, worklogs, forums and more. And as it's not that big as a community, we'll be happy with every extra game programmer that will join in. Your chances are pretty high thus.

Any programming language will be accepted, and you're strongly encouraged to keep worklogs on Boolean Soup and share in the fun.

You can enter any moment you wish, so you don't necessarily have to start when the competition officially starts, but you could also wait till christmas or anything. The competition will run for the long time of 4 months. Oh, and the first prize will be an awesome hardware item of choice, with possible choices a 5.25 megapixel digital camera, a printer/scanner/copier combo machine, a Geforce 7600 graphics card and more!

We are allowing teams of 2 persons, or you could ofcourse enter alone. We have special team prizes so each team member will get something if the team wins.

The competition will start october the 5th, and that day the themes will be released on the website.

Hmmm, it's awfully nice of them, and it seems interesting, however (there is a however), the prizes don't say much for 4 months worth of effort...

Even for the 2 man teams, 2 2gb sticks, comes out to about 80 bucks worth...

I mean, it's nice and all, however not enough to get me out of bed... I assume they are taking all the other prizes not chosen (And by the looks of it, there will be alot of prizes left over if there is only a 1st,2nd, and 3rd place, and that many prizes to choose from) and putting them into another tournament?

Perhaps if first place was a couple of prizes? same with 2nd and 3rd? Then it might be worth the work.

A few months worth of work for 100 bucks isn't good return and better spent at pitching a game that took half that time at penny arcade or such...

Perhaps I should say this there....

ooohhh, they haven't gotten the prizes yet, they are merely items they 'intend' to give you with a predetermined amount of money for that winner....

Nice idea, just not worth the time unless your a true hobbiest. Thanks for the heads up though Ian
