addictive!
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/addictive! That's great stuff. And addictive too!
love it!
Very, especially on a Tablet ... it's like a DS game in the making ;)
Nice find! That Sledtronic vid is mental!

Where is the 'eraser' tool? I want to be able to rub stuff out.
We should make a track all together! what do you think?
That toy is dumb. I don't know why you people like it. I drew a few lines, it didn't do much just kinda fell, then creeked to a stop... its boring.
That's cool!
Dampe... you -need- to watch those linkie videos to understand, now that you have tried to do it and failed miserably, like me ;]
Everyone in my family is addicted:)
I'm addicted to the sand game.
I got the hang of it immediately and got it doing pretty damn awesome stunts.
I'm going to make a Bike version when I get chance.
I'm going to make a Bike version when I get chance.
there's a lot of possiblities for this really, such as snow boarding, bikes, ski-ing, motorbike, etc....
I've got an idea for a game with proper levels and objectives, just need to figure out how to do the collision stuff first.

lol, leave it to a bunch of programmers to not just sit and enjoy the game, but to re-engineer it....
uhhh, yeah, I had a few ideas of some fun little physics games based on this as well ;-)

... Watched the videos. Still boring. You people need to lay off the pot.
ok, so we all agree then S8N, this game is about as interesting as your website ;-P
So you can either take that constructivly, or other....
:-P

It may be boring DampeS8N, but it's something new and refreshing... and that's what makes it worth the hype.
I got the little dude doing a front, and then a back flip, without touching anything in between :)
Top nice!

Your not getting the point. You took that comment negativly, read it again....
Although it is worth observing that this game is widly popular. You would take note in that if you are in fact a game developer, knowing what is fun and what isn't in the broader perspective is what is important in this industry, not in what you find enjoyable....

Hi, this is my first post, please dont get offended with what im about to say, its just my view...
I cant say its a bad game, or a bad toy, but think about what you guys are playing and enjoy looking at, a little doll jumping... think about it... isnt it a bit ridiculous?, no offense meant, but, could there be better games to enjoy than seeing a little guy jump?.
Peace.

Wow you really have to play this game using a tablet. I thought it was badish but with a tablet its awsome !
yeah, and this isn't -fun-. You people are too bored.
It is a soothing toy, like the falling sand thing (only that was at least enjoyable from a 'lets see what I can get it to do' perspective.
You really can't do a lot with this, and it is really too violent (as in manic, rather than gore) to produce the same hypnotic effects as something like falling sand.
Not only that, but it is gimmicky. This is the kind of thing that everyone is going to play with once, and most will never touch it again. I wasn't going to until you guys started gushing over it.
Go on, make a game with it, I don't care. Just don't expect it to be this popular. What makes this at all compelling is the nature of it being a toy.
besides, I'm a game designer, not a game ripper-offer. I'm not going to steal this idea cause it is popular. Thats what the big AAA companies do, they steal the 'good' ideas and then every game is the same. I'd rather invent new ways to do things.
.... and like I said, this isn't anything new, I've seen a few DS games with this basic gameplay mechanic, and lots of games in the past had something like this. The reason you don't see it more outside the DS is that you really need a tablet to draw straight lines, otherwise this isn't predictable enough.
Most people don't have a tablet.
(In a sense, the falling sand uses this same concept)
Boil the gameplay down, and you get to "Draw a line" then "Watch a movie".
http://ds.ign.com/objects/711/711828.html
The guys who made the kirby game understood both these things. The DS is like a little tablet, and you don't have to click play or anything, you can draw during gameplay.... Another recent drawing game is Okami, but it doesn't have any 'follow' features on the drawings. (not really)

Watching blocks falling (Tetris), simulating real every day work (sims online), grass growing (sim earth), ball eating balls (pac man) Giant ball of flaming poo (any fps made by EA). Those ideas sold, why can't a guy jumping?
@DampeS8N
At first I thought you were just trying to be oddly funny, now I see you have some odd issues that you really need to work out.
Rather than comment on every portion of your little speach, I will leave it at this. Its a freakin toy, who the f--- cares....
Ahh screw it, here it goes:
besides, I'm a game designer, not a game ripper-offer
Really? what games have you designed? May I take a peek and see if there are other 'similar' games out there with similar mechanics? Wouldn't you be a ripper then, by your own definitions?!?
Go on, make a game with it, I don't care. Just don't expect it to be this popular.
You must care, for you're long winded post suggests such..
Secondly what expectations is anyone insinuating?
Not only that, but it is gimmicky. This is the kind of thing that everyone is going to play with once, and most will never touch it again. I wasn't going to until you guys started gushing over it.
Isn't that the whole point though? I would have to say that a large portion of the market is a gimmick isnt it? They want you to at least buy it, after that they dont care.... Play it once, or dont play it at all, throw it away, they dont care, they just need you to buy it...
Besides, the designer of this 'toy' said it was merely a project for one of his courses and that he really has no intentions for it. So it's not a gimmick, just a test he did that he happened to open up for others to play with.
and like I said, this isn't anything new, I've seen a few DS games with this basic gameplay mechanic
So wait, the mechanic does justify a few DS games? What is your argument here anyway?
Most people don't have a tablet.
I have one! Many here have one. Where do you base your findings?
Boil the gameplay down, and you get to "Draw a line" then "Watch a movie".
Wasn't that halo 2 as well? Point and push the button a few times, then watch a trailer for a while, move and push a button, watch a trailer....
Although, I am still confused on what your argument really is, or better yet, why your even arguing? The post was labeled 'addictive' with a link..... Who are you arguing with, people on the internet? Didn't someone once say that was like running in the special olympics?
To me the game is good honest fun. If more developers started with a fun concept like this and then built the eye candy on top instead of the other way around then we`d have some really great games instead of the trash we have at the moment. The sad fact today is that most people from this generation wouldn`t even give it a chance because of it`s simple looks which is a shame.

"Watching blocks falling (Tetris), simulating real every day work (sims online), grass growing (sim earth), ball eating balls (pac man) Giant ball of flaming poo (any fps made by EA). Those ideas sold, why can't a guy jumping?"
Tetris is about watching blocks falling? i think that if you just watch you loose the game, is it really about watching things? isnt it about something else?, i think that tetris is about thinking patterns, but you seem to think its about watching falling things...
The sims is not a simulator either, its another toy, its not about work either, because you dont even play when your sims are working, so, how come its about everyday work?.
Sim earth... that games wasnt even good... because it was about watching things, not playing.
Ball eating balls, pacman, oooh the prehistoric games, the memories, dont you think its a too old example?.
Ok, those ideas sold, but that doesnt mean they are good games, it means people love poo, you said it yourself, EA is powerfull because it makes poo that sells.
But im not talking about selling stuff, im not a brainless business man that only cares to make money, im a thinking beign, and im worried about the things people play because there could be better things to be made that watching little guys jump.
Think about this, whats the difference between this game and watching a ball fall from some stairs? or rolling down a slope? or thrown out of a window?, think about it... im just trying to give some constructive critizism to people making games today, peace.

You cant say this "toy" is crap, look at the amount of people who enjoy it.
Its just like warcraft 3. I hate it but I know its a "good game" because so many people play it.

@DH
I'm arguing for the same reason you responded to my argument.
The only other thing I'm gonna bother with is the tablet comment. The reason so many people HERE have tablets, is the nature of the forum (also a reason why the toy is popular on DA, as it is an art site and artists tend to have tablets) But if you ask the average internet user if they have a tablet... or better yet, if they know what one is... the percentage is low.
Very very low.
I would put money on less than 1%. It is prolly less than .1% maybe even less than .01%...
I'll look for some stats and edit when/if I find any.
EDIT
Wacom has sold over 2 million tablets.
1.04 billion people use the internet.
If all the other tablet brands added up to 20 million sold... then.. thats .01% of people online have a tablet. (assumes that people don't buy more than one tablet... so they never ever upgraded to a newer one)
So between 1 in 10,000 and 1 in 100,000 internet users have a tablet...

Man, you go too far with your arguements.
I know, its a talent.
Think he'll figger out that I'm just busting his chops?

Where's your stats on that? ;-)

Honestly, if your going to be argue the point just to be argumentative, then actually read what I wrote. SIMS ONLINE. Ever play the game? IF not, here is how I played it.
My wife gets addicted to games easily. Her current addiction is Command And Conquer Generals. It used to be sims. So she tried Sims online, and to give her an introduction into massive multiplayer, I joined as well. YOU ACTUALLY GO TO WORK IN THIS GAME!!!! you start as a waiter and actually have to take peoples orders, serve them food, and clean up after them for 25 min.. And you only get about 120 simoleons from it..
After doing this twice I realized I was playing a game that simulated work.... screw that...
Sim earth... that games wasnt even good... because it was about watching things, not playing.
Doesn't matter does it. It sold a few copies.
Ball eating balls, pacman, oooh the prehistoric games, the memories, dont you think its a too old example?.
hmmm, yeah, your argument is pretty pointless now.
Think about this, whats the difference between this game and watching a ball fall from some stairs? or rolling down a slope? or thrown out of a window?, think about it...
Think about what your saying... just for a second...
Ball rolling down stairs (monkey ball). Ball rolling down slope (Marble madness, which I enjoyed as a child thank you). Ball thrown out a window (remember the power glove for nintendo, didnt that come with some glove game where you threw balls at things?).
To the nay-sayers. I really dont care however remember that saying what you think is good and bad is pretty irrelevant as (with most topics) majority rules. If many people think a toy/game/spot-of-poo is fun/addictive, then so be it. The other thread I started labeled 'funny' should prove this as it's about a World of Warcraft video. I tried WoW, hated it, but it has 7 million subscribers that say its a fun game. To me, no, but I can't ignore 7 million addictions to be a gamers minority and thus rule it out of the 'good game' status...
Food for thought.
Personally, I think it's great. It's inane, pointless but none the less enjoyable.
I'm paid 9-5 to design & write games and love it's simplicity, or more importantly what you can achieve - if you try - with very basic constructs.
Makes me wonder how much time DampeS8N has on his hands to argue about this to such depth. Shouldn't he be programming?
Just kidding..
It's fun, if you don't like it go to bed...

Oh sorry, i didnt read the "online" part.
But what im trying to say is that there are better things to play than throwing things, and we game makers are responsable for making those kinds of games, cant we do better than that?.

Dumbest. Argument. Ever.
Dumbest. Argument. Ever.

Dark Half.
In the games you call 'ball rolling down stairs' and such. you miss the one critical piece of important gameplay.
You can directly control the monkey in the ball... you aren't watching him roll down the stairs. You are making him roll down the stairs.
This toy has 2 different modes. Play, and Draw.
In play, you watch a guy fall down a line. In Draw, you draw lines.
You have no direct control of the guy.
This was the point I was trying to make on that...
also... I just googled "How many people use the internet" and went with the first figure that came up....

I still don't believe you until you post a refference link
http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm wiki said 1.04 from this site in june.... its 1.08 billion now.

Well...if it makes anyone happy....I thought it was cool...not sure if i'd buy it though.
Why would you buy it , hes not selling. This guy doesnt claim this game is worth a million people, he made it for an assignment.
this isn't -fun-.
It's a toy, like you said. Toys provide enjoyment. If you don't like it fine, don't play with it, much like you don't play with Barbie dolls probably. Just don't stomp on other people because you don't get it.
