Ruby is great beside of speed...i wish BlitzMax had such great datatype handling.

Have to agree, if you want a job with a big-ass company, cobol is a requirement..

After all, why should some big company have to get their GIANT codebase re-written? Even if they have to break their fingers with a desk to be able to use those systems....

Yeah, COBOL is really in no danger of going away. Big companies have no reason to shell out for a rewrite to something more modern if their existing system is working and, odds are, it is.

Well, I'd say that for the Microsoft programmer, I'd consider learning the traditional VS 6.0 package before jumping to the .NET structure of VS 2005, so you know how to convert the old code to the new structure. Even for those who wish to convert 6.0 to 2005, you should always learn where the differences lie prior to goofing up your program.
