There has been a public download link to Vista 5728 posted on AeroXP...

Hey,

Any info on whether this has support for SLI. I couldn't get RC1 to install because of my 7950GX2. Apparently I was not the only one who couldn't get RC1 installed on an SLI setup.

[edit] I'm Referring to the 5600 build

Hmm, as I understood it RC1 was supposed to be SLI compatible.

I also couldn't install Vista RC1 using my GeForce 6600, but that's unSLI'd, so maybe the problem is a bit more widespread than MS recognised?

I'm running on my old GeForce 3... I'll let you know if I have any more luck when I install this thing =]

Just out of curiosity, what happens when you try installing on a SLI setup?

As for info on 5728 this is all I have right now. I can't even find the post about it that was apparently made on AeroXP...

EDIT : Forum thread, here : http://www.aeroxp.org/board/index.php?showtopic=5975&st=45
I still can't find how they located the 64bit download link though... The actual Windows Vista CPP download page only has a link for 32bit...

Oh and in case anyone will ask... use your key from beta 2/RC1.

Yeah I just checked AeroXp and can't find any thread. I hope the link doesn't go down as I'll have downloaded the whole thing in about 25 minutes time. It's currently screaming at 730KB.

With RC1 5600, when installing, I would get to the phase where it installs hardware. The I get a BSOD with it complaining about an NV--.dll. Can't remember the full name of it. Anyways, I did a google search for the error and came up with about 30 links with people getting the same error as me and all had 7950GX2's. The word was that RC1 5600 didn't support a single GFX card with dual cores like the 7950GX2.

There were workarounds but none worked for me. eg disabling one of the cores on the GFX card. I gave up after about 5 days of trying.

Hopefully I'll get some luck with this one but I'm not holding my breath.

OK you missed my edit above for the forum thread link =]

It seems the only real differences in this build are minor cosmetic things and a BSOD fix for anyone who were experiencing them regularly. Even the build tag still reports this as RC1 ;]

Sadly, my GeForce 6600 problem sounds completely different to your SLI one, so I hold little hope. Oh well, will give me an excuse to bug them with another error report.

Damn you and your horrendously fast connection. Stuck on ADSL512 where I am and it'll 'only' take me 20 or so hours @ 55KB/s ;]

Well, it installed flawlessley. :) It seems they fixed the 7950GX2 problem and along with it they may have fixed the issues your having with your GFX card.

Build 5728 absolutely blinks. And it looks damn fine.

I've got to get used to it, it'll take time as some things are different.

Can't wait for the official release. I'm probably going to buy both the 64bit version and 32 bit. Have them both running on dual boot.

Anyway, back to vista I go. :)

Congratulations. That makes me warm and fuzzy inside. Suddenly I no longer feel the need to go to the toilet.

Here's a tip - Daemon Tools 4.06 now works with RC1 - but doesn't with this build. However, what you can do, is copy system32\drivers\cdrom.sys from an existing RC1 installation to the your 5728 installation (in safe mode).

@Toby

Why is your name becoming more and more depressing?

And surly, you are "Undead Toby", which means you cannot RIP

No no, I'm speaking to you from beyond the grave. Uh... maybe I'll change it again =]

The most fun nick ever!

Ha ha. Its taken me 4days to notice the name change, (rather I noticed a "The most fun nick ever!", and didnt realise it was you)

Heh. Heads up - Vista RC2 is to be released to the public (probably this Friday), which was kind of a shock considering Microsoft previously stated there will be no RC2.

Anyways, build 5743/5744 will be released to a small group of 50-100k people, which probably means nothing as public as the beta 2/RC1 releases, which probably means you won't see it unless you're a part of Connect/MSDN/TechNet or something.
