Not QUITE finished but I'm nearly there. I have to ship this thing off to Las Vegas for the NCIS fanfest charity auction today.

Graphics Showcase perhaps? I don't know but it struck me as a thought.

meh, a real sloppy job. First of all, the gun trigger is roughly (I obviously can't measure it exactly) 3mm too short. A trigger of that length would not allow enough sustained leverage to fire the gun easily.

Second, the cop's watch clearly says 7:10. Everybody knows cops go off duty and police stations close at 5pm.

That's amazing. When I first saw it I thought it was a photo. My mind is still telling me that the clothing is.

What kind of pencil did you use for the darks and lights?

I try to normally stick to 2B when doodling, but the second it comes to making darks/lights, I tend to try overdoing on the shading, and it just becomes a blur of varying greys in the end. ;/

Excellent piece of work though, that's the level of skill I'm trying to aim for when I get into college to pursue a career in arts & animation....

Btw, gotta ask one other question....how the heck did you do the fencing in the back? Was it something as simple as taking an eraser to it?
(I wouldn't have had the patience to draw the negative space for it)

Most everything was drawn with a regular old .5mm mechanical pencil you can get at the grocery store with 2B lead in it (they usually come with HB). The darks though were done with a 9B and 8B pencil.



The fencing was done in about 5 minutes with a block eraser on it's side (nice sharp edge) and a straight edged piece of cardboard. :) If I hadn't been rushed I'd have went back and gone over the links with some dark to make it look like the lights were actually highlights. As it was though I didn't have time and had to settle for just crosshatching a white line. Sometimes the simplest way to do things is the best. :)

what size is the original picture please?

the original is digital... here it is.

(had to scale it down a bit... it was 1494x1993 originally)



I just chopped a bit off the sides and top/bottom and printed it on 8.5x11... On the faces I blew just the face up to 8.5x11 in order to see all the details I could...
