Networking gremlins

Hi folks,

for a while I've been operating a 'wired' sitecom hub via my laptop and main machine. The main reason is when the kids use the main machine, I can do a little development on the laptop and port it to the main machine when they're done.

I've been living with 'limited connectivity' from the laptop, but file sharing was working so .. fine. Today, managed to resolve the limited connectivity problem by doing some command line configuration - great I thought - I'll just run the networking wizard to polish things off. Big mistake - the networking wizard on my main computer has always been a bit flakey and took forever to do it's bizness. After 3 to 4 mins, the main computer reported ' networking wizard encountered a problem.....'.

To avoid wasting my whole saturday messing with networking grief, gave up - for the time being. File sharing no longer works - for the moment.

Has anyone else had experience of command line prompt networking being more reliable than the XP network wizard -

Everything the network wizard can do, can be done with NET (commandline program). This little critter is a very powerful command, you even can throw scripts at it. I use a script and a batchfile to switch network settings with one click when at work/home.

Just search the net, there are tons of examples how to use the NET command.
