hardware?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/hardware?
dear all,
what kind of spec hardware (pc) does anyone recommend to get at least 25-30fps in a scene with about 250,000 polygons.
thanks, Shawnus
probably around a geforce 7600.
Probably an unreliable estimate but just testing 10 spheres with 80 segments (blitz spheres 25,000 polygons each) in front of a camera with no textures on my laptop ran at 180 frames per second. This is with an AMD 3500+ (2.2ghz) and WinXP and an ATI 9700 Radeon Mobility.
that sounds good to me, thanks for the spec. Does anyone know if there will be a 64 bit version of blitz3d?
30 FPS, 250k is possible even with 1,5 Ghz P4 with GF4 MX, if those are static polygons.
ok, I think I am going about this the wrong way. I am willing to spend about 3000 pounds (ish) on a demo PC and for technical reasons I wish to have a fps of about 25-30. So roughly how many polygons would that allow me to use in my scene (I apologise, I am really more of a photorealistic 3d modeller than a programmer) with fairly basic textures, or dont I have to really worry too much?
spending that much... you probably don't need to worry about it much. Just make sure you get a good video card (or two).
I'd go with the 7950GTX (or whatever letter scheme they are going with today) which is basically two 7900GTX cards on one PCB.
thanks all- it looks like the consesus is that the card is the main factor here.
yes, but now try 10 different shapes with 25k polys each.
