OK so the wife insists I switch to DSL. Now the phone does not work... it is dead... all IS plugged in correctly but no tone... DSL blows chunks!!!
DSL bites the big cookie
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/DSL bites the big cookie disconnect it then call the company
if they don't fix it try cable

And you have those converter thingies plugged into every phone socket that you use, that allows dsl to work with the phone?
and you've installed the telephone/dsl split right after the socket into your house?
You need a converter.
I thought that was the other way around - if the converter was not plugged in the DSL wouldn't work. I have not had DSL for 4 years now though.
nope the line filters were correctly installed... some dimwitted moron at AT&T clicked the wrong box and our service was dissconnected instead of upgraded... They showed our account as "active" and "cancelled" at the same time... AND it only took 4 hours using Skype before I got to someone in the United States that spoke Texan and could actually help me... Damn outsourcing!!! I was given a list of over 27 numbers to call... hold times were incredible... I used to think MY company had a terrible customer service department... not any more!

Now that sounds familiar! A friend of mine has third world DSL (not a major phone company, although the major ones mess up too) and after the 4th time their "techs" messed up a setting on the server he would talk them through how to reset it correctly.
