I read this on my Google homepage, and I think it's worthy to be more than just a quote of the day!
I'll share it here...
"Failure is not the only punishment for laziness; there is also the success of others."
- Jules Renard
I think that applies perfectly to software development, where a good idea only lasts so long before someone else does it instead.
"Resistance Is Futile. You Will Be Assimilated!"
"All Your Base are Belong to Us"
These two are more useful.
>"Failure is not the only punishment for laziness;
> there is also the success of others."
I have one for programmers' that I just made up now. :)
"Procrastination is not a cure for idle complacency to fit in with others"
Hello.
We have your wife and children. Finish the job.
Goodbye.

Only one adendum needed - if you can't make it work, copyright it for the cash.
"Shoot for the stars... even if you miss, you might wing one of their bodyguards or their teeny weeny doggy"
"Failure is not the only punishment for laziness; there is also the success of others."

But if the success of others means you end up with a better game than you could have made yourself then you are 'quids in'.
Failure depends on the presence of success, or it would have no contrast. You can't know of failure without success and vice versa, so you can't have entirely one of those without the other. That's how the world is set up. You don't have to be successful all the time, and in fact can't be.
Don't look into laser with remaining eye.

Here's a motto I made up:
"We do it, because we can."
