Your Proudest Blitz Accomplishment

What's the best thing you've accomplished in a Blitz language so far?
In other words, your proudest moment.
Getting an email reply from someone at Blitz Research! ;-)

So far,
Alethiometer (BlitzMax). It was a fun weekend hack, but it's had more downloads and a more-positive reception by far than any of my more-planned projects. I had a good time making it and was pleased to share it with other fans of the books that inspired it. Sometimes a strike of inspiration for a quick freeware project is better than careful effort (though I'm hoping that careful effort for paying games will win through in the end <g>).
Yah, your Alethiometer is brilliant :)
So far I'm most proud of my
Nuclear Reactor, since it's actually finished to an extent that I can safely not work on it again without feeling too guilty and it works on every computer I've tried it on.
Making a game for my brothers business which took 2 weeks to make and has brought in more than some people make a year.
For my own personal developments, having my first casual game (Sudoku Maya Gold) make it to Real Arcade first try.
Yah, your Alethiometer is brilliant :)
Thanks! <blush>

So you've seen it, too... Why is it that quickie, off-the-cuff projects can do
so much better than ones you pour your heart into? Funny and frustrating... :)
Sudoku Maya Gold
Good luck with that!
Guess it's like anything else, when you try to hard you don't get the result you want.
It's like going to a bar looking for women and going to a bar just to have fun and get drunk.
I've found that when going to a bar looking for women... that's the last thing I'd find and I'd just leave drunk.
When I went out strictly to have fun/get drunk, well.... I still walked out drunk, but also with someone.
I guess the same idea can be applied here :P
So, if I take your meaning... drinking is the key! Brilliant! :D
I'm kidding; you're probably right about the "trying" bit. Natural seems the best. If it flows, and you're hyped about it while sitting at the keyboard and can't wait to finish, others may well be too.
:)
Drinking doesn't hurt either.... I had my share of beers when I 'was' working a full time job and also developing Sudoku Maya Gold at the same time.
Natural Flow is the best though. If you think about profit too much you miss the design. If you think about design to much then you'll never get done (and profit from it). If you don't think at all and just go with it, you end up with something that just manisfests into what it wants to be.
And....
If you drink and don't think... what does that make you?
http://delidash.acsv.netDelidash, featured on tv programs and in magazines. Our (acoders) most popular game to date!
http://pes4online.acsv.netSingle handidly started and created the pc online community for KONAMI's pro evolution soccer 4 (a comerical game)! .. with no thanks or recognition from them I may add! Featured in magazines. At its highest point there were a minimum 30,000 games played a month, and 1000 members online at one time. Thats alot!

Mother of Pearl, you ain't kidding! Well done. For the proper attribution of glory, which Blitz did you use (and what GUI and/or network library if not native)?
Probably
BattleTanks II. It was fun to make and turned out fairly well, too. I think it's the best game I've made so far (also the most popular - it continues to get around 1100 downloads every week).
Pride is a sin. And besides, I have this whole pseudo-goth low self-esteem / self-hate thing going on. If not, it would be something small and personal ( fnar! ) because money is a necessity, not an aim. I don't know, it would be something that was very hard, took a lot of work, had no help with and finally achieved. Like maybe the Laser Squad Map Editor I wrote years and years ago on the spectrum. Or removing the copy protection from games ( purely for personal entertainment and back when breaking copy protection for your own purposes on games you bought legally was legal! ) But I can't really think of anything Blitz-related that holds up against those.
Yeah I had some great pre-blitz personal coding achievements and one major commercial achievement (www.merlio.com), but in blitz my biggest achievement is the current game I'm writing in Max which is almost at the beta stage. If I can't included unfinished games, then Easter Bonus would be the biggest, or would it? Perhaps Xmas Bonus as it was my first commercial game...so hard to decide. I was also pleased to make my tetris full game over a year ago, and my Iron Fist platformer.
Thing is it's all relative, I keep hitting different milestones and some of the earlier ones may have actuall *felt* bigger than the curent ones!
I'm pretty proud of Total Terrain 2, although I'd still love to make Total Terrain 3 from scratch... I'm also proud of Attack of the Baddies so far - but it's been a long time since I've had time to do anything on it and I have such big plans for it. I started a geo-mod engine for it which is going pretty well but until I win the lottery and don't have to go to work I can't see me progressing too fast with it. One day...
But my biggest achievement has been using Blitz in development of my film
Ten Thousand Pictures of You - I made a program for putting together a pre-viz animatic, which I want to grow into a full featured filmmakers' toolkit, and all the way through postproduction I used it to batch process animation frames, and I made another piece of sotware to smooth out camera shake and pan and scan around the high-res images, which I also want to expand.
My proudest project?
"ss Great Britain Navigation Simulator" (for the famous Bristol Museum)
http://www.smartscreenuk.com/SSGreatBritain001.htmlClosely followed by "M42 ATM Driver Simulator" (for the Highways Agency).

Gfk: You are supposed to pick one ;-)
Meh. Gotta be Hole in One, then!
The piece of code I'm probably most 'proud' of is my mesh clipping code/demo. The reason being, that I generally suck at maths, so working out the clipping formula by my self, then later seeing the formula on the net (d'oh!) which showed I'd worked it out correctly, was pretty satisfying.
See my sig.
Try it.
hey gabriel how did you create a laser squad map editor for the spectrum????
what language and tools did you use?
I would have been very impressed back then if I knew someone who had done that- in fact im impressed now!
my abandoned elite style space game - which never really
got too far along..looked kinda pretty though :p
heh..ok, i dont have one..no harm in pretending ;)
Slunkar : I hacked out all the file formats with peeks and pokes, and used that to write a level editor in Spectrum Basic. Of course, it was far too slow, so I converted it to Hisoft Basic ( which was compiled.. sorta ) and it was just about usable. Still a little on the slow side when you scrolled the map, but not bad.
Defoc8,
willing to share the code? Not meaning to hijack the thread but working on an Elite style game myself...
i mailed you...assuming your contact address in right in your
profile - note: i wont be around much longer..we're talking
days..maybe even hours now..lol, anyway - at some point
bt will be cutting me off :p - ill try to help out as much as i
can though..
Gfk: You are supposed to pick one ;-)
LMAO, well if your going to blow someone's horn, might as well be your own, right?
Getting Aerial Antics published by Garage Games, into Computer Gaming World, featured on G4 Network, and also being on the cover of the first Blitz Newsletter ;) All around, Aerial Antics although Blitz definitely did me proud a few other times.
Hole in one was great! .. (err.. IS great!)
Mother of Pearl, you ain't kidding! Well done. For the proper attribution of glory, which Blitz did you use (and what GUI and/or network library if not native)?
Thanks!
I used blitz+. Native windows gui, but using canvas with drawing commands to make things like nice. The irc code was written from scratch by myself. It was almost a full implimentation of the irc protocol too. I should release it someday!
I created a status monitor the FM&CS dept. of a broking bank. My proudest moment was when it went up on 37" monitors for their execs to see.
Err - actually getting to the point where I'm finally coding the things I've been thinking about for the last couple of years. And seeing them done of course - that's even better.
Apart from that - coding a small educational farm management game. Not all that exciting - but a done deal.
Like Gabriel, my best programming moment was not a Blitz moment, but an Atari ST moment when my Space Invaders game, written entirely in 68000 assembly language was featured as the main cover game in a copy of Atari ST User magazine yonks ago! I was paid pittance for that though... :D
This is really sad but my proudest achievement is a small app I wrote called monster scripter. It was for use with an online game server and allowed people to create monster scripts through a GUI, to save them doing it by hand. Its my proudest achievement as it's the only thing I ever finished in B+.
My proudest achievement has got to be
HighGUI 3Though before that , it would have been a quiz game written in QBasic. I printed of all the source code and drew comments all over it on like how I could improve it etc. It was something like > 30 pages long :/
My proudest project.. Reno Casino
Currently being sold in Spain

It's a hybrid machine with actual reels and lamps as per normal, but with a TFT at the top which has video reels, roulette, blackjack, dice, 3 card monte games.
As the video card on the embedded hardware couldn't do 3D I had to render the reels, games and capture them as BMP's.
Blitz seemed perfect for this.
With the dice game I used Tokamak to create the dice throw and captured this to an animation sequence.
The project has taken over a year and a half, but got there in the end.
And onto the next one....
Hmmm. All I got is HomeSpun...I did that years ago and keep thinking I'm going to upgrade it but never have the time. I'm not a programmer at all and HomeSpun is just a program that uses existing code to simplify assembling worlds. But, you know, what is neat, I guess, is that Blitz3D is so easy to understand and use at it's simplest level. Mark can be proud of that. Thanks!
At one point I had a finished Lightcycle game (4 years ago?). Had a lot of fun writing it and the AI was pretty decent. But I just can't seem to find the code these days. I think it's having a beer somewhere with the maplet source code. :(
LOL, so that's what happened to Maplet!
Reno Casino ??
^_^
Well, I am proud of my space/plateform/logic/shooter "Brium XG-72" !
Since I don't get much time to code with blitz I don't have any finished games.
But this doesn't mean I don't have proud moments.
Enabling my dungeon master engine to load in a level created in 3DWS and lightmapped in Gile[s] was a very proud moment with real working doors/pressure pads/torches/moving walls/bridges and animated intelligent entities.
The beauty of Blitz3D is that it is easy to achieve things on the small scale for us with limited time to put into it.
Haven't finished a game as yet, but a proud moment was realtime blobby objects routines that I put up some tutorials and code archives about.
I am quite chuffed with PaceMaker - mostly because I actually finished something.
I think that anyone who actually finishes a commercial project should be proud of the fact. Its not easy when you have a full time job - especially if the job involves coding as well. If the game or application is a success then even more reason to be proud
The person(s) who should be most proud I reckon is Mark Sibley for creating such an intuitive, fun to use yet powerful language.
Definatly Emo Game 2: Emo Girl. I think it's decent. -_-
http://www.freewebs.com/clownhunter/emo%20game%202.rar
mine would probably be when i created an origin point based location engine in 30 minutes
Probably Tattoo, Decorator, TeraPak & the Lightwave Convertor in that order. I'm planning to do a properly upgraded version of Tattoo & Decorator in Max3D when it comes out.
Terabit your vast amount of utility achievements are legendary, nice to see you still look at Off Topic every now and then :)
nice to see you still look at Off Topic every now and then :)
Yeah still around (although less often that I would like), but since 3D is more where my interests are, I'm just hanging around waiting for Max3D to emerge. :)
Hmm, I think my proudest is Master of Defense game.
