Internet Lingo: What does PWNED mean?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Internet Lingo: What does PWNED mean?
I not to internet savvy on lingo being used but I see this word being used alot and I want to know what it means and what context you would use it in?
The exact sentence it was used in was: PlayStation 3 Worldwide Launch PostPWNED
or
I just pwned you.
Actually, it does not mean anything, due to it not being a word. It's just something some kids made up. Sadly for them, they were not yet 16 at the time; so they did not actually "know it all" by then. ;O)
haha you are so pwned, not knowing that ;-)

Why is it not a word?
It's just something some kids made up.
It's actually more something that they mis-typed due to being overly excited whilst playing counterstrike.

the long winded reason boils down to this "it is not accepted as a word by dictionary writers"
Wiki is your friend...indeed!
Thanks!

HAHAHA. that was supposed to be a joke I think
In England English it is concidered to be a word when two out of "Oxford" "Longman" and "Collins" include it as a word. Probably a similar rule for US
that was supposed to be a joke I think
We'll be the judge of that. ;-)

Being a bit pedantic but the dictionary definition of 'word' doesn't mention it having to be in the dictionary.

Maybe not, but I can guarantee that if I use a word in the dictionary (a respectable one that is) it will be accepted as such, if it is not in the dictionary then it is 50/50.
Umm, anyway, to answer the OP's question... pwned = owned, with a simple typo. I guess though it happenned so often that some people caught on and decided it was cool or something... but more often than not nowadays it is used by spotty geeks who wouldn't want to be caught alone in a dark alley.
