Is it me, or did Apple turn over a new leaf?

Well, I was just watching a news flash from what used to be Tech TV (now G4), in a segment called "The Feed." I heard now that Apple now facelifts on their iMac and Mac Mini lines. Seems like iMacs are getting bigger, better, and more powerful than ever. Maybe this is Apple's precursor to Windows' Vista PCs coming out? Well, if iMacs are getting more affordable, it may give me a thought or two as to whether or not Vista and OSX dual-booted on one would be more worth doing than before.

No need to get excited. Only small improvements in form of the core 2 duos, and the bigger iMac. They still sell the same gfx hardware as before...

The 24" iMac comes with a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT and 256mb graphics RAM. I don't think the older iMac's had that. :)

I'm hoping they will have something new on the portable side of things for the Paris Expo in a few days. Preferebly a 12"/13" MacBook Pro machine...though I'm not really expecting anything.

Yeah they put in a real performance beast. A 80-90€ gfx card where you will cry of pure enjoyment once trying to play a up to date game at the resolution the display supports... ;O)

What do you mean up to date game....most games tend to come 1-3 years later on OS X than on Windows. :P

Or if Apple continues their Boot Camp through Vista as well, you may need a DX 10-compliant card by that time.

To an iMac? I wonder how that Mac looks like after the plastic surgery...

Naw, I mean, I better hope that Apple can catch up to demand if someone were to play Vista games or even use Vista on an iMac, as well as run BlitzMax games on both OSX and Vista, maybe Linux, too.

yeah macs come with rather low spec video hardware in. Like the apple Mac pro has dual Xeon processors and a Geforce 7300GT... A crappy $80 video card!!!! in a $2500 system.

Pfft, yeah, Apple seems to be using Sony's pricing, or even Alienware (pre-Dell). Well, for a Mac, I guess that using any form of dedicated graphics are better than the GMA 950 that the Mac Mini uses.

I think it's kind of wrong to compare the iMac to any kind of PC workstation or gaming system. For one thing, it's a totally different form factor. I know there are some PCs around that are a bit similair, and their specs usually aren't that great and the price is usually high. The iMac should probably be compared to a media PC of some kind, it's very quiet (at least it was before the latest update), it comes with a remote and Front Row, and at 24" it could easily take a place in someone living room as a TV, DVD player etc.

Secondly, power isn't everything. I own two computers. An iBook (1.33ghz, 1 gig RAM) and an AMD workstation running XP with a nice 24" screen, good graphics card and more. The workstation probably has 3-5 times the power, 5-10 times the OpenGL/DirectX performance etc. of the iBook...and for some reason I find myself using the iBook much more. If I were to try to pin-point it to something, it would be that it just feels better. (not that that makes any sense). :)
