PS3 in march 2007 (at least in Europe)
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/PS3 in march 2007 (at least in Europe) if you want the PS3 so badly, you can buy it from the US or Japan at launch. The price will be higher, but the machine isn't region locked.
I'll be waiting until I see if its got any worthwhile content, something that warrents the steep price.

I had to use Google to translate which wasn't perfect but I think I got enough. I'm partly annoyed because I was expecting it out in November but I'm partly pleased as I wouldn't have enough money to get it November.
Europe needs to develop something the whole world wants so we can release it here first and let America and Japan wait a few months.

Did i say anywhere that i want it badly?

Do you want fries with that?

Hmmm i sometimes have this feeling coming up with things wich are delayed over and over again that they are also not thought out very well. If so it might be the better choice to wait for PS4 where Sony might have learned from the mistakes made with PS3... ;O)

Yeah yeah! Let's all have a productive argument about how crap a system is that is yet to be released.
What I still don't understand: why is the second largest market delayed but the 3rd largest not?
But once again, sony sucks that badly with their new console, its a wonder it is hyped:
1. Mostly wrong specs of what the system is capable as with PS2
2. Using a media type that will be the next death birth, as DVD RAM or MiniDiscs or UMD was as well (I don't see a future war with HD DVD and BR, BR does not have the potential to be up that due to its problems)
And the sad thing: still millions of people will buy it and send it back as with the first 2 generations of PS2 which broke due to heat dispension problems on laser diode components (I had one of those, you had to place it with a DVD box or something below the back end to let it spread the heat bottom as well or it froze after 3 hours of play)

It's written that they also release a lot less units than planned in the release countries...

What is the order of the markets? I would have assumed that America and Japan were the biggest markets?
@taumel - my post wasn't just directed at you, I was kind of listing possible ways to get around the problem.
I doubt if Sony will do something to answer XNA.
In Japan XBox isn't PS2's competitor at all, and I think Sony is laughing at MS's silly move.

@ yoxola - PS had the Yarozi thing, PS2 has the linux kit, and I am sure that since the PS3 comes installed with linux that it will too have its share of homebrew development.
Also, who cares if the system comes out in march? There really aren't that many exciting games lined up for launch. Once MGS4 comes out though I'll be running to my local game shop.

C'mon remember how when PS2 came out they were lacking computer chips cos of the mobile phone boom, and you couldn't buy a PS2 for like 4 whole months when it first came out. That didn't seem to hurt Sony in the slightest
Everything comes to those who wait... and usually a damn sight cheaper to boot!
@Retro
Okay...
Okay...
What strange news. I got an email from Sony the other day saying the Aus release date is -November 06-! And we are usually months behind.
No surprises here.
599 Euro....jeezus.........and I thought the American pricing was high.
Europe is the biggest market. (But Americans never beleve it, so Im not going to defend it, but it is)
Europe is the biggest market.
Then how come the US gets everything special and Europe is lucky to see half of it?
Europe is the biggest market? It's a pretty big market yes... but bigger than Japan? No way. Japan is the video game capital of the world.
Japan is most important to japan based Video console creators.
Second largest is Europe, which outsells US in most cases by a factor of 1.5 and higher
3rd is US, which has been second largest in the PS1 - PS2 generation but isn't anymore. (and further stupid laws will take care that you will be handled like 3rd somewhen in the near future)
But VidGame creators still don't get that and especially don't see that europe has the by far highest grow rate of all 3 areas. (japan can't grow further, it is over over over satisfied and a wonder that it sells that much from economical point of view ^^)

Yes Europe has a larger population than the US and with Eastern Europe developing the market must be growing. However, Europe is treated appallingly by most game/console manufacturers, therefore piracy is quite rife. And to be honest I don't blame anybody who does pirate games from these companies, why wait by far the longest and pay the most money when you can pirate it for free or next to nothing and get it when everybody else does? I'm not saying it's right but if you treat people with contempt then you're a fool if you think they're not going to return the favour.
In germany some of the bigger stores are giving back the preorder money to the people...

It's been like this since forever, I can remember as far back as 1998 when I started importing games from America and Japan, some of the Playstation games I owned would take as long as 9-12 months to be released in Europe, worse still, after all that time too with the inferior letter box displayed PAL slowdowned piece of crap.
Europe gets a bad deal with any system and especially games, some of which of course never make it out of Japan and some even don't make it out of the US to Europe. Which is clearly the reason WHY we have an import market and people buy systems before they're even released. And with the PS3 reported to be multi-region, expect many orders for Japanese consoles from abroard, more than ever.

Is Europe able to be treated as Europe now? Or is it still more like dealing with a bunch of smaller countries? If it is still more like the later then you have the answer - The US may be a pain in the rear to do business with but it *is* one monolithic entity for the whole process. Europe at least used to be a patchwork quilt of aggravation (rather then a single monolithic aggravation ala Japan or the US).
If Europe has truly turned into a monolithic agravation then it is simply inertia causing the 3rd rate status. If it is still a case of needing different marketing campaigns and TV deals and print deals and languages - then that is the reason for it. (I'm not saying it's right, wrong, good, or bad - just the likely explanation)

Oh yea, cos its not like all TV ads are the same, just dubed into different languages is it. And you're right of course, Montana doesnt need different marketing than Calafornia
heh, The US is a lot like a bunch of smaller countries too, There is the federal government, but state government controls a lot independently. It's not like the UK where the central government dictate all policy on key issues throughout the country.
Just for fun :D

How much 'love' for Sony...the only positive fact for Europe: Japanese and American people will be the 'betatester'...so *maybe* the last costumer will be more satisfied?!??

With the advent of HD TV's they won't be able to use that tired old rubbish about 'we have to translate it to PAL'. So they'll have to fall back on their 'Europe has more than one language' which doesn't make sense as it's not just one man that translates into all the languages is it? They could do it concurrently.
And yes as ENAY stated I love how they use the US as a test bed for games and if they don't do well in the US they often don't end up here. That would be a wise move if the US and Europe had the same tastes but as we don't it's a masterful move in limiting one's profits, I salute them (whilst Europe just pirates the games)

needing it and getting it are two different things - most of the time Montana doesn't get different marketing (except at local level store advertising) since it isn't worth the cost of doing the ads.
> Oh yea, cos its not like all TV ads are the same, just dubed into different languages is it.
Being from the US I wouldn't know, 99.999999999% (1) of all ads here started in english and stayed that way - which I guess is kinda the point.
(1) - with the rapidly growing exception of spanish language TV.

And here comes Nintendo to make Sony look bad : http://wii.ign.com/articles/731/731244p1.html

Spend a day watching the adds, then tell me what percent you actualy "see" the person speaking English, I think you'll find that a lot more than you think are "Unlanguaged" then have a voice track over them.(Ok Im not talking about an add for "Bobs autos", but its nearly always cheaper to make the ad abroad rather than in the US, and so they do, but they make them so that its easy to turn it into any language. Even writing on packages nowadays is no indication)

There was this classic Playstation game called Parasite Eve that I got on US import in 1999, me and my mate LOVED it to bits (still do) After 6 months of playing it on and off round my house, my mate wanted to buy it too, thing is though, there was no Europe release date. None was ever even planned (still never got released to this day) Then I got another new game Xenogears, classic RPG, never got released in Europe. My mate starting getting really pissed off with this, so I offered to chip his PSX for him like mine. Best thing he ever did, although next problem his TV picture came out in black and white. No problem, I copied my CDs and installed a NTSC/PAL patch I downloaded from the internet in nero. Ping! That sorted it, he was now playing PAL converted American games.
You have to laugh really, I've often thought that crackers should be the translators of games. It's just a WASTED business opportunity to make a game and then NOT release it in various parts of the world. Pathetic.
Same goes today for various games for PS2, for example Katamari Damacy, you can't buy the 1st Katamari Damacy in Europe on PS2. How do you play this classic game? You get a chipped PS2, plain and simple. You can buy it in America, and instead we get shite like Fifa 2005, Sponge Bob Square Pants etc.
I've not bought a single pal game in years. The sooner we get worldwide release dates for everything (including movies/dvd releases etc) the sooner we can stop feeling jealous of each other for various things, I think this in itself would considerably cut down piracy. I've lost count the number of times I've seen a DVD rip of a film that hasn't even come out at the cinema here in the UK.
The Internet has severely closed the gap between world markets, it's a shame that distributors haven't kept up with the increase.

I don't mind so much with games that takes ages to be released in Europe (I will use Square-Enix, BIG offenders here, as an example), I take offense to games that are just never released. Huge names like Xenogears, Parasite Eve and tonnes of other very well known SE games... Front Mission Online, the second free game that comes with FFXI that never got translated to English, Front Mission 4 (I would love to play that), Final Fantasy Tactics and tonnes of their other random RPGs.
Kingdom Hearts 2 is probably their quickest Euro release ever - only 9 months behind the Jap release. Dragon Quest 8 however - 2 YEARS. And the game is swamped with weird european try hard voice acting, instead of the normal stuff the US peeps undoubtedly got. Still at least they got released - and with extra bits that SE worked into it since the initial Jap release... same goes with Kingdom Hearts and their Final Fantasies... but for the ones that didn't make it here... <sighs> I just wish they'd hurry up and realise that we aren't America and we actually have some decent taste ;P

Sorry, just have to correct you, but Front Mission Online actually goes for roughly 7,140 Yen, which is roughly $60 USD.
(I too wished it got released over here, problem is that there's a monthly subscription for it also, which I cant afford alongside FFXI -.-, but damned if it aint got some good music in it)
Sorry, you misunderstood me (bad grammar). I meant Front Mission Online, then JongHowLo, which I was just too lazy to search the name for until now =]
Oh right, that little game with the kanji name I never bothered to romanize...
I heard Front Mission 4 was RUBBISH! Front Mission 3 was awesome, but that DID get a Europe release strangely enough. Final Fantasy Tactics yeah I forgot that one, that came out along the same time as Xenogears too but again never a Europe release. I wonder why many Millions of revenue Squaresoft lost in that financial year(s).
The are planning to lower the price for the xbox360 in Japan.

Cant read german, but from the looks of things they're discussing the fact Japan is now getting the Core-360 system, as they've only ever had the Premium's over there.
(I still dont know why they bother with core systems, the cost to upgrade a core to premium costs more then the package price difference)

I'm not really surprised, when I was in Japan a few months ago it was quite difficult to even find one and even when you did, it was well hidden in some corner with about 7 games on view to buy.
Yay, nintendo rule... quality not quantity!
Well, Nintendo has the quantity, but no one is yet to know if quality is in there. All we know about are some games and how the controller functions mainly, yet we still know jack about the Wii system itself regarding its interface et al.
I wonder why many Millions of revenue Squaresoft lost in that financial year(s).
Uhh, wasn't that about the time they were working on the Final Fantasy movie? ;]
Another good game never to be seen in Europe is Chrono Cross.
