Spybot S&D is spotting .b3d file format as malware

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Spybot S&D is spotting .b3d file format as malware

I just updated Spybot Search and Destroy (the update files are 1/9/06)

It found a 'BDE Projector' problem with the .b3d file extension - this may be due to 'Brilliant Digital' releasing 'b3d Projector'.

I recommend all Blitzers who have Spybot Search and Destroy to run an update and then check for problems. I wouldn't fix any BDE problems though - just check it is flagging this up.

The latest version of Ad-Aware is reporting the same.

So, don't accidently fix anything to do with BDE Projector/BrilliantDigital.

I don't think fixing this will cause major problems - it will probably just remove .b3d as a known file extension rather than deleting every .b3d file the app can find on your system.

Probably the best action to take is to run 'Regedit' and check the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\

and check if 'Brilliant Digital Entertainment' is in the list.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\

Check if BDEPLAYER (or similar) is in the list.

If either are then you may need to take action (or not - depends)
