Game patches are getting bigger and bigger
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Game patches are getting bigger and bigger
I got Battlefield 2 today (free) - having played the demo version several months ago and liking it a lot.
The latest patch is 438.2 MB - pushing half a GB!
One of the good reasons for me having a Fileplanet subscription.
Anybody know of a game patch bigger than this?
Holy crap! I'm so glad I gave up playing PC games.
yeah... install the first everquest from cd... then update.
I think it's pushing 4-5 gig. :)
year 2016 an email to an auntie 2773736655532676277Gigabytes long. Message: "Hi Auntie. Fred"
year 3456 how on earth could they have sent an email in 2016 saying "Hi Auntie. Fred" in only 2773736655532676277Gigabytes.
PlanetSide sometimes has huge updates. World Of Warcraft Also.
When I first played the planet side trial I spent about 7 hours waiting for patches to finish :(
Near every Battlefield1/Vietnam/2 patch comes with a new map puki, which is the majority of the space the damned updates take.

Gotta love them MMOs...Final Fantasy XI is pushing the 1gb mark currently.
Would wonder how the heck a game with such simple graphics (talkin about Everquest here) can load up to that many gb over time.
I know this is kind of off subject but Battle for Middle Earth 2 Demo is 1.5 gigs.
Jeez, there is another patch.
It's 543.7MB.
This is probably going to screw up the cheat codes that took me ages to find to get working with the last patch.
Cheat codes? Thats a good way to get your stats reset.
Ah, but I only play single player - people don't like playing online with me.
new patch for bf2?? egad! Must download! :)
the mulitplayer beta of "company of heroes" got a 800MB patch recently...as a sidenote: the whole beta took about 1,8GB...
btw: www.gamershell.com offers free and fast downloads without any kind of subscription or registration of nearly everything game related
Nice, the long-awaited BF2 v1.4 patch....hope that'll fix the oh-so-annoying random-crash-to-desktop upon joining a game.
(after it spends ages loading map/verifying files {why must verifying take longer to do then load the actual map?})
Thanks for the heads up.
Btw Puk, you can use the "incremental" update to 1.4 if you had 1.3 installed previously, it's only 140mb, and I'm guessing it's including a new map at that size...
BF2 is not that good singleplayer. BF1942 was the only BF game that has decent singleplayer.
If you get into BF2, you should look into getting the special forces update.

Speaking of which, anyone here got either of those two mission packs? Been looking at them for possible purchase, but I've no idea if it's worth it, as I've no idea if there's any servers out there that support the maps, or if there are even enough players to play against for 64-player rounds.
Regardless though, I also have to reccomend Special Forces, love the zip-lines & grapple hooks. Now if only the damn game didn't want to bog down for random reasons.
(it makes me feel as if the game has no culling/occlusion system at all in it sometimes)
Ah, but I only play single player - people don't like playing online with me.
Do you even go up ranks or get medals/unlocks in sp?

Yeah. I've got EF, and AF.
I really only used SF for the extra weapon unlocks and there doesn't seem to be much ranked servers running EF or AF. Atleast for me with a <100 ping.
