Buying via Steam is cheap as hell

HL2 - Episode 1 is £19.99 in stores in the UK.
I just bought it via Steam for £12.38 - this is due to Valve charging in US dollars.
This is great and I think this could be the way to purchase for non-US residents who are lucky to be in a country where the currency is competetive.
but you dont get a physical disk do you?
You do when you Physicaly backup the instal dir onto a disc
Nope - however, I assume with Steam it is always there for you to download again from you account.
Yah, foreign currencies are great :)
Since the Canadian dollar has gone up so much recently in comparison, and companies haven't bothered to adjust prices, I can get stuff much cheaper from the States.
hmm, how much is plain old HL2 then for UK, I never got that as I was waiting for it to go cheap but it never did due to Steam.
Having said that - I've finished it already. It probably only took about 6-8 hours to finish.
Sniffage.
I'm glad I didn't pay £19.99.
but it was a great episode though. I kinda got to know Alyx better I think.. she scared me good down in the dark once.
Yeh, but she wore the same clothes - in fact, I am going to check out the HL2 modding scene - I bet that issue has already been fixed - knowing that lot, she's probably got a nude skin by now.
she looks sexy in those pants.
Having a game that's only usable as long as the server is up isnt what i consider worthwhile. Soon as they decide to move onto a new product and bin this one (like EA just did to a lot of games) you're screwed.
You can always resort to piracy means of getting your legit copy installed/undecrypted at least in the case that ever happens smilertoo....I'm just glad Steam at least has an offline mode so you *can* play the thing without being connected to the server.
I'd still like to know how much HL2 is these days as I never bought it when it was new.
oh ok thanks so around £15 now that the dollar is weak.
