How long Before Max3d will BRL drop the Price of B3d?
I know they wouldnt have to at all
But lets say Max3d is to be relesed in December, (I dont think it will, but assume).
If this was the case, and I bought b3d like 2 days earler, and then max3d came out. If Bmax + max3d was a comparable price to b3d, (Which it sort of will be), then I would be annoyed.
So, should we expect a B3d price drop, let say 6 weeks before Max3ds release? Or will b3d stay at this price even after Max3ds release?
(I know this is all speculation, so if you are going to post on the lines of "Dont go speculating, get some programming done", then please just dont post)
How about Blitz3D owners get a discount off of Max3D like they did with BlitzPlus and MaxGUI?
Mmm, maybe they are waiting to see how much Cobra is going to be?
@Ikg
That would be Ok as an insentive for old B3d users to move over to Bmax. But if you had just bought B3d, then saying "But look you can get this better thing for a bit knocked off" would still leave me annoyed if I was in the situation were I had just bought B3d.

You seriously expect BRL to work for several years on a product then give it away practically for free?
BlitzMax plus the Max3D module will almost certainly cost more than Blitz3D does, so I don't see them reducing the price of Blitz3D at all. Its still a cheaper option at its current price.
Don't forget also that Blitz3D is a totaly different product.
As Mark has stated, Max3D is aimed at mid to highend systems meaning you would still need to use Blitz3D (It may go GL also) to make games more compatible with lower end hardware.
Well, I have bought Blitz3d more than 2 years ago, I have 'free' update - how many? I lost the count - I'm still using it, a 'special' price for old user is not the main thing I would like to receive.
I will be happy to pay the 'full' price, without any doubt!
Of course if a new user will buy Blitz3d the month/day/hours? before the launch of Bmax3d-module (what will be the name?) *maybe* BRL will have some 'special' politic/promotion. But for the older user I don't think nothing. And I agree with Amon: Blitz3d and Bmax3d will be different products.
Just my opinion of course...

I was talking about reducing Max3D's price, not Blitz3D's.
Just be glad Mark doesn't charge $300+ for his systems.
I really dont see a point in lowering the prices on his software when Max3d comes out.
i think b3d is worth every penny, probably 3X as much.
Dont go speculating, get some programming done.
My prediction:
Max+Max3D will be moe expensive than B3D - and deserves to be as its a much more powerrful and ambitious product. It'll still be a snip for what you're getting.
Blitz3D won't go down in price. It's a different product.
There will be no money off Max3D for B3D users. MaxGUI was given (cheap or free?) to B+ users as B+ was considered a bit below par on the GUI side (so some said) whereas B3D is considered a complete product.
Bottom line: Why would anyone buy B3D at this stage if they really want MAX3D?
B+ was considered a bit below par on the GUI side (so some said)
It didn't live up to BRL's hype, coupled with the fact that the windows MaxGUI files are still using most of the code from B+ anyway. Since a lot of people were disgruntled and only the Mac and Linux code was really new... a discount to the previous Windows users makes sense. I still think giving it away for free was too much... but that's BRL for ya.
In the same vein then when will they give away BLITZplus to all those who bought BMAX or B3D???
But if Mark did charge $300.00 for these languages and libs... it would still be worth it! He isn't charging you a license fee if you make a commercial property with them... Oh cr@p... now I have opened another can o' worms!
when will they give away BLITZplus to all those who bought BMAX or B3D???
Well, since not many people are disgruntled with Max or B3D and BlitzPlus shares little of it's codebase with either of them too... I don't see that happenning.
Well.
I seem to be the only one who thinks that b3d will stop being the "Flagship" product on Max3ds release. And that its support lifes death will be on the Horizon at that point.
I had figured this a given, but the feeling here seems to be different.
If I bought Brls "Flagship" 3d product, and then two days latter it was overshadowed by max3d, I would be annoyed.
Well there are several gfx card and car type analogies I could come up with, but I'll spare you them.
I also believe once Max3D is released B3D will be dropped as the flagship product. However, since BRL have ALREADY stated that B3D is no longer receiving updates (except in the form of bug fixes), it is already technically dead. Except of course for the fact that it is as completely usable as it was 5 years ago, in fact much much moreso. And for the same price as back then, perhaps cheaper. So it seems like a clear case of 'if you want it, buy it, if you don't, wait for Max3D'. I don't see the problem.
@Toby,
Imagine you are little Jonny programmer, and you are going to Buy B3d for yourself, and so you save and save, and buy B3d, (You looked round, and couldnt afford DBpro and packs. Didnt like Cobra, and think basic is better than c++). You buy your loverly B3d, and join the forums and start asking questions, (Lets say you buy Terraed, and spritecandy as well).
Then two weeks later max3d is released. Now maybe you whouldnt have bought Max3d anyway, and maybe you were fully aware that Max3d was comming one day. But I think that most would hold off buying b3d once the release day for Max3d was closer. So the only ones who would be buying it, would be them who didnt know.
In such a case, being able to say, look thats why its cheaper atm, would be good policy.
(Come on who is going to buy b3d in the month before max3d comes out? Hardly anyone), so making it a "End of season" sale might shift a few more of them.
All the review sites for Game Langs, are going to start to say
"D3b, BRL's execelent language for the begginner wishing to program in 3d under windows. BRL no are longer supporting updates for D3b as the expected release of its sucessor Bmax3d approaches"
Then Maybe?
"Its a highly versitile Language dispite its outdated engine, and given its recent price drop, still highly recomended"

I dont think BRL should feel guilty because little Jonny didnt read announcements or do any research about brl upcomming products ect.. Im sure when Bmax 3D Module is a month or so from release, we will hear somthing.
Let little Jonny worry about his own pocketbook, and leave brl alone :) If you have to worry about 80 - 100 bucks so badly, and cant resist impulse purchases, you deserve the loss :)
But the point above was a good one, b3d will still be cheaper without dropping its pricetag, so it will still remain the "cheaper" solution
I think that most would hold off buying b3d once the release day for Max3d was closer.
Given that they are two products aimed at totally opposite markets (one for commoner/shareware markets, one for only those with high system specs) I'd say it really depends on what you want out of your language/engine.
the only ones who would be buying it, would be them who didnt know.
Sucks to be them I suppose. Still, sucks to be a car buyer when the car you bought goes on sale tomorrow.
being able to say, look thats why its cheaper atm, would be good policy.
B3D is very likely going to be much cheaper than the Max+Max3D combo anyway.
Basically, all you've managed to convey to me is that, yeh... it would be nice if BRL dropped the price in anticipation of the up coming release. Considering what you get for the current price, I'd say it's asking too much. Still, that doesn't mean it won't happen.
