..a pirate I was meant to be..

Not finished yet.. I'm slightly tired doing this for 2 days already. :P Furthermore it's unmixed and unmastered yet, it's just .. it. To me it's a bit of a mix between Hook and Cutthroat Island.

Enjoy this lil' presentation!

ps. it's all tracked, I detest any other method. :P

yarr! Finally a tune I can swing my peg leg to.

EDIT: really good! Im impressed. I'll give you ten pieces o' eight for it!

wow, fantasic! sounds real cool.

While we're on the subject of cool music, how much would you charge for a 5 second music piece for an "Arcane Magic Productions" logo intro?

Dunno.. what does Hans Zimmer charge for PotC - DMC? :P

Jokes aside: requests for eyepatches are better done by sending an eHook I think.. :P

<harshness>
It is... pedantic, all muss and fuss and no substance, has an bsent or lazy melody, is fragmented and jumpy... Might be ok if it is set to some kind of action.. like in a film.. But.. you didn't mention that. Yeah... It sounds pirate-y... but it doesn't have any body, or soul. It has a pirate-like arangement, but isn't pirate-like in itself.
</harshness>

Ignoring the lack of substance, the arangement is nice. A bit fussy for what it is, unless it is meant to fit some action, but well put together and is deff pirate-like. I wouldn't mind having this behind me as I cut down scurvey seamen... I just wouldn't remember it afterwards.

But ofcourse! I didn't expect anything else.. :P

And yes, the idea of style is film'esque/action-scenes yes, tho it shouldn't have to be mentioned perse. This film thing is basically my background (I've 500..1000 soundtracks here), so what I do emerges from that..

@DampeS8N: Landlubbers cannot grasp the finer points of good pirate music. ;)

I liked it.. :)

and don't listen to DampeS8N.. he likes midi! :p heehee

I like it. Sounds as good as any other professional game music I've heard.

There's some really high frequencies in the bells there that kinda bug my ears though.

it's unmixed.. the high-freq stuff will go as soon as it's done and the mixing will start..

Do you have a website with other examples of your work?

While it's hard to define what is pirate'ish, it does make me think of adventures on the high seas. Arrrrr! :)

No, I'm quite lazy on that. Besides most of my stuff is (c) stuff, hooked up with publishers and the likes, I can't just put that online myself. (I'm not legally entitled to, well, unless I pay like $100 per month orso as I'm then acting as a radio broadcaster, duh!)

Tho, you can find things here:
All the 'Wolf' stuff is mine. It's all quite old however, not exactly representing what I do today, but still quite fun. They're mostly remakes from MSX games (including Metal Gear, and the Falcom game 'Legend of Heroes').
Where it says 'OPL4' means it's a tune made for a demo orso, using an MSX OPL4 soundcard, with max 640K RAM and 2MB GM ROM (of which I only use very little, such as a piano, a tubular bell, a xylophone etc. etc., not the ugly lo-fi stuff like strings and such). This OPL4 stuff might be a good reference for tracked modules, apart from the mentioned size, they also have max 24 channels.

Also, for the Dutchies (or ppl who don't care about language): here's the whole ShoufShouf TV-series http://www.tvopjepc.nl/programma/443/
And here's a TV movie I did in 2003: http://www.tvopjepc.nl/programma/19/0

One thing to be for an action scene, where the music only has to support the action and doesn't need to stand out. Another to be inspired by that action, but be meant to listen on it's own.

Either way, it would be nice to have a melody I can come away from this humming.

Oh, and you should expect blunt honesty from me, not only because thats all you've ever given me, but because thats all I ever give anyone else.

ozak: try finding the OST's for:
- Hook (John Williams)
- Cutthroat Island (John Debney)
- Muppet Treasure Island (Hans Zimmer)

That's typical modern pirate music. Forget about PotC.. For goldenage OST's I'd need to dig, but composers like Erich Korngold also have a reputation in that area, iirc. (it's just that these OST's are a little hard to find)

And ofcourse the Monkey Island series are also a good reference.. in a way.. :P

Since you didn't answer my question about the snippet, I assume you don't do small tasks for pennies? ;)

I did answer!

"Jokes aside: requests for eyepatches are better done by sending an eHook I think.. :P "

I haven't seen any eHook yet in my Hookbox.. ^_^

Hee hee, I like :P

What'd you use to create it? EDIT: I need your samples! :P

Although maybe it's just me, but it sounds like it just stops at the end and there should be more...

Now to go back and try to get those darn VST instruments to work on Linux with WINE.... *So close!*

Yarr, thats what you get for wearing two eyepatches over your glasseyes at once.
One eHook coming up!

erroneouss: it's a WIP.. but I couldn't resist showing it already :P
