Ok, so I deleted Windows Vista by just formatting the partition it was installed in.

But now it is still displayed in the "Boot Manager" at startup. How can i get it not to display that anymore, at first i thought about editing boot.ini but it only has the Windows XP option in it.

This is what boot.ini looks like now:

So it says i need to use BCDEDIT.exe, but i must have deleted it along with Vista.

What can i do to make my system use Windows XP's boot.ini and not the one Windows Vista used.

You could try and 'fix' the master boot record. I had this problem with linux.

yeah a simple fixboot and fixMBR should do it.

Delete the hidden dictionary named "Boot" in your main Hard Drive/Partition. That gets rid of the boot manager

@ Tri-World Creations: What do you mean, what exactly is it that i should delete, do you mean a hidden folder named "Boot", or files like Boot.BAK or BOOTSECT.BAK ? There's no hidden folder named "Boot" on my C: partition though.

Look 5 post down. And just to comfirm , I have vista on duel boot with xp too, and I DO have the hidden folder named boot in "C:\boot".

@ Diablo: I really don't have a hidden boot folder so i couldn't try the solution described in the link you provided.

But...I managed to fix it by removing the Vista bootloader with this great tool: http://www.pro-networks.org/vistabootpro/intro.php

So now Windows XP's boot.ini is being used again. :-)

For future reference - the XP boot CD has an option to repair the MBR and other general start up stuff of your OS. That would have done it.
