4 in 1 drivers worth installing

Does anyone here recommend installing the 4 in 1 drivers, I believe they are called, for motherboards made by Viatech? I have never actually used them myself and am just wondering whether or not I should install them as they are meant to improve stabilty and I have been having troubles with that recently. What do they actually do as the details on the site are sketchy at best. I don`t want to create more problems for myself.

Any advice would be most helpful.

They are drivers for your chipset (North and South Bridge). They'll let you use your AGP port and such.

I assume Windows has its own versions that it uses if the 4 in 1 drivers are not present then? Is it worth using the official ones over these?

I always use the official motherboard drivers (usually supplied on a CD), over the generic Windows ones. Never had a problem doing so, but you could always set a rollback point (if using ME or XP) first - just in case.

When I had a via chipset I remember that the 4 in 1 AGP drivers were much faster than the microsoft ones...with microsoft drivers it was about as fast as software emulation ^^

In Windows ME, just out of interest how do you create a restore point? I know how to do it in XP but cannot find a similar option on ME.

I use the 4-in-1 Hyperion Drivers for Via mobo's, but of course, it all depends on whether or not the chip on your mobo is one of the listed compabitible devices.

Never had a problem with them at all.

In ME, wasn't the system restore thing broken?

sometimes the microsoft drivers are ok, but other times you'll see a HUGE increase in speed by using the ones specifically made for your chipset. It's ALWAYS worth the effort to install them.

Definitely worth installing, since they are created specifically FOR your hardware, and not some generic driver that may (or may not) kinda-sorta work. ish.

Without the VIA drivers installed I had horrendous performance on my harddrives in my old system... And even worse, very unstable - copying any file from the C: to the D: would almost always result in a blue screen of death. All issues went away as by magic after installing the VIA drivers.
