I would love to see Instant email notification on the blitz forums. Shouldnt be that hard to implement, all ther other forums have got it.

well, most forums allow you to subscribe to a thread by checking a box when you post, or at the bottom of the thread.

I think moving to prepackaged forum software would be a great move in and of itself. I don't understand why people write custom forums in this day and age.

I like this forum, actually.
Nice and light-weight, it works (even on DSLinux's browser), it is seemlessly connected to the web site, and it doesn't have any dumb extra bloat.
Also, since this is not a popular forum software, losers don't try to hack it. Using something like IBP would be pretty unsafe since the site is being used to distribute money-costing software.


Besides, moving forum software would leave quite a mess unless they spent forever changing the database into whatever the new software understads.

Yeah, I think this forum is way better than the prepackaged ones. No retarded features like 'ranks' and 'rep'. Also, way less clutter and images and no lame redirecting.

It could use some "retarded" features like rich editing boxes (for easy code use), jump to first unread post, and an RSS feed.

I agree that such would be nice, along with an option to open a full reply window.

Yes, they work and they do look nice. However, the addition of a simple feature like "jump to first unread message" would increase the usability 100 fold.

IF I was writting some forum code, I dont think I would bother with a pointer to the next unread message for each thread, for each user.

Lets say there are 2000 users, and 60000 threads, thats 120 Million pointers to next Post to read

Ok I accept that you dont need a pointer to a thread with no more posts, but thats why you cannot post on a board with this system if the thread is 2 or more mths old

Insead of "Unread posts" and better and easier system would be "Unread posts since your last visit". In a nutshell its a date/time query since your last login period.

Oh yes, also the forum tags should be made as clickable buttons just above the "Post reply to topic" box, to make things easier :)

Im all for that, isn't hard either. As long as it only counts as a "login" when you view all the forums, since this site is my homepage but I dont always view the forums.

If I was going to make a complaint about this forum, it wouldn't be lack of emails, but instead the fact that you have to either memorize forum codes or keep a link handy to a forum posting explaining what the forum codes are. Now THAT'S a pain in the arse and could be easily remedied.

That's what I meant more than a history of all the posts you've never read for all time. It would be really nice to simply get a list of threads that have new posts in them since I last visited, with a link beside each one that will take me to the first unread post. That would cut down clicking/scrolling time in these forums by a lot.

there are quite a few simple elegant forum packages, I quite like PunBB which were using for our site. It adds a few extra features but doesn't look all that much different to the BB forums to me. I was looking for something like BB with some simple extras but not too much bloat.

here's what ours is like, I wanted to integrate it into our site and have something small and simple. I'll be upgrading the site soon to make it more scaleable with CSS now that I figured a lot of it out.

Think about what the RSS feed would contain. That's probably why.

I am sure we where promissed an rss feed, we really could do with one it's one of the big important features this is missing.

I stand with Flamey on this!!! But sadly I can understand somewhat... Remember that the great unwashed thinks MAC is "friendly" because the computer "smiles" at them when it boots up!
