Aonyone used Windows 2003?

In my workplace, they're upgrading computer hardwares and changing OSes from Win2000 to Win2003.

I don't know what change it will made, and the compatibility, or will BMax run on it....

Any words on it?

they are upgrading from windows 2000 to windows 2003 server? i dont think there is any other version than server versions of windows 2003. anyway it will work once the graphics acceleration is turned up again.

There's Windows Server 2003, Winders Server 2003 Enterprise, Terminal services, etc...

I used it back in...well, would have been 2002 before it was released, seemed OK back then and I would assume it improved since ;)

Max should work fine on it- I still have my trial CD at home, not sure if it will install now since it's past the 6 month date.

The 2 host server use Enterprise license, other clients will upgrade to Standard within weeks.

They use server-licences for client-pc's? You should ask for a salary-increase then, as they may have free money to spend ;)

Though the trick might be that with some licence-models you are allowed to install as many servers as you want for "free".

My problem is that these damn HP-Desktops we got at work come without AGP/PCIe-Slots. So I'm bound to the onboard GPU...ehm the chip they say it's a GPU, in fact it's crap ;)

It seems there'll be some changes with the DataBase too, so many built systems needs to be re-examined or re-writed.

I think they bought a volume licensing, we have around 30 workstation in hospital, and some bound to execute maintainance/debugging task.

Anyway Win2003 is something new to me, and it seems not so easy to ues like xp.

When you deactivate all server services it's like Win 2000+3 ;)

To games/casual software it should behave like W2K. You just have to install DirectX and off you go...

Windows 2003 Server sucks as a normal person PC. IE won't let you do fuck all, and DirectX doesn't work properly.

Win2003 is just XP with server extensions and extra security. I have made 2003 to behave and look exactly like XP - the only thing I couldn't reactivate was the picture for your user account that is displayed in the new start menu.

Max should work fine. All you need to do is go into dxdiag and turn on the hardware acceleration. Most drivers or programs that complain about unknown OS can be fixed using the XP compatibility switch.

Mail server at the office is 2003e still has SPAM attacks that succeed daily!

An OS is not a SPAM filter.

If your office installed some anti-spam software, you wouldn't get so much in your inbox. Simple as.

After a few tweaking, it looks much like a light-weighted XP now, it's not bad but too much hand tweaking is really annoying.

Max works well, and most software does, too.
It seems not much to worry :|

Well, it is supposed to be used as a server, not a home OS.

Had Win2k3 installed, tried finding drivers, kicked again.

Getting games etc to run on a usefull level or even just enough compatible drivers (lots of fun with "real graphic cards" ^^ ) is even worse than for Linux ...

I have no idea what you're talking about. You don't need W2k3 drivers, you only need XP ones. I only ever had problems with Logitech drivers, which somehow saw past the compatibility setting.

In my worskstatio I use a 32bit standard version of Win2K3, it's typically similar to WinXP, and drivers are usable.

I've heard some incompatibility on 64bit version Windows, so it's not in consideration by our engineers.
