Nintendo DS and Livebox

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Nintendo DS and Livebox

I guess this is a long shot, but has anyone with a Wanadoo/Orange Live box managed to get it working with their DS?

I poked around on the net, and it does seem to be possible, although it seems to involved messing around with loads of the LiveBox's setting, including basically turning off all it's security/firewall features - hardly plug and play. I don't like the sound of that. :/

I was also wondering if it's possible to have both the DS and a PC connected to the LiveBox at the same time? I thought the LiveBox only supports one wireless device, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, any thoughts, tips, experiences with this would be great.

Cheers!

I am at a critical point trying to recover my PC from another crash at the moment but I can asure you it can be done and I will help you out ASAP when I am able.

After much effort I managed to get Mario Kart and others working perfectly whilst being able to use my PC and leave my security settings on full. I seem to remember I had to disable the security settings completely, set up Mario Kart and then I could reactivate my LiveBox firewall etc... and all would be fine. Give it a shot and if that doesn`t work I`ll get back to you.

It can be done though :)

OK, great. Do you know of any step-by-step guides to do this?

I don't want to fiddle with settings etc. piecemeal because I don't know what I'm doing, frankly - most network stuff is a mystery to me - and I don't want to bork or compromise my PC connection.

If it's going to be too much hassle to get this working, I don't think I'll bother, TBH. Online gaming doesn't appeal to me greatly but I thought it would be good to give it a whirl and compete in Mario Kart against some real people, instead of just the cheaty AI. :)

I`m trying to remember what I did, go into adsl config and set no security in the part about wpa or wep security and that may do the trick, if not then disable the firewall too. Set up the connection via Mario Kart (humans are just as sneaky as the CPU players, get ready for the horrors of snaking!) then set your original Livebox settings to what they were. That should work. I seem to remember that those settings were blocking the DS but you only have to disable them initially to get the Livebox and DS talking to eachother. Give it a go and let me know if it works. If you need any other help then just shout.

OK, I'll see what other info I can google on this and then may give it a go.

Cheers.

Also have a look for my forum thread as I asked the same question about 6 months ago. It may contain some info that can help.

Jason.

Old thread but Orange delivered my LiveBox today and my sisters little brother came around with his DS. Here's how I got it to work.

You can leave WEP enabled inside the box with no problems. Instead of using auto settings on the DS set everything up manually, the IP address, gateway and DNS servers.

It works :)
