Funnier still, they got the batteries from Sony! ;O)
Sure looks like karma for the root kit to me.
I can't imagine Dell not talking to Sony about the cost of this.
Sony should really consider a re-brand to Sorry! ;O)
They had the combustible Playstations not that long ago too - (pyromaniacs in the R&D dept.?) They even recalled mine, sent me a letter asking me to return it for a free rplacement. Only thing is, they must have been dead worried about those, as I never bought one to start with! ;O)

I like their monitors (better ones). In fact, every artist at FM has two FP2001 DELL monitors.

Yeah, if only Macs would be more affordable, I'd really consider a Powerbook at this point. I'm quite sure their batteries won't do much harm. Plus they have a metal casing, so it'll be far more durable in the long haul.
hey... i remember the day when a notebook battery could be counted on to keep your coffee warm on those brisk office mornings... or at the very worst, take off a layer or two of skin on your hand...
... but this exploding crap, well... that's a bit too much too much to ask a jaded cubicle dweller to have to take.
'Stang... i swear by Sony monitors... nice, rich, warm tones... all my TVs are Sonys too... i luv that trinitron stuff...
the closest i've come to a Dell is the eMachines puters i have here... reliable, and cheap enough to toss out after a years use for a new model...

Heh, looks like my battery is on there.... Now I wonder if the laptop causes the battery to overheat or if the battery just goes off on its own, cuz my system gets hot enough to fry an egg on. Literally.
I wonder what will happen to the SG-1 teams that are off-world when this recall goes into effect?!
(if you watch the series, both SG-1 and Atlantis use Dell laptops, and I hate them for it ;) )
IBM laptop battery bad... :(
Ach, I KNEW I shoulda went with a Twinhead/Toughbook type notebook.
EDIT: If Dell's using a Sony battery, then why isn't Sony recalling their own VAIO line, too, or the PSP for that matter (assuming that PSPs use Li-Ion, too)?

Give it time.
Dodged a bullet there. The battery on my Inspiron 8500's not one that need replacing. :)
A product that is named after a paper item deserves to burn.
Wish I knew how to interpret that, I mean, I do have an Inspiron 6000, that may or may not be one of the affected lines. Serves me right, I have the bigger battery on this configuration, too. That's gonna be $100 extra down the tubers with something like this.
bring on thorium-based mini reactors, I'll have one of those in my laptop, car, shaver, camping stove.
Oh yeah... Well, I did key in my serial number for the battery on Dell's website. If I'm not mistaken, it's only the batteries that start with JP that are affected. My battery started with CN, so it's not affected, I don't believe...
