OpenGL Now Natively Supported in Windows Vista

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/OpenGL Now Natively Supported in Windows Vista

This might be old news but now confimed by Khronos: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3760

However, the OpenGL ICD drivers must still be downloaded and will not ship on the Windows Vista installation disc. Khronos said that NVIDIA already has a beta 2 ICD OpenGL driver available and ATI will release its own soon. If no ICD is present, Windows Vista will rely on the layered OpenGL mode by default and only offer basic functionality.

Well, if the drivers still need to be downloaded, then it's not 100% native with Vista if you still have to do things like this. If it were Apple to natively support OpenGL, you'd have everything right out of the box with a Mac, they don't fool around like Microsoft does.

Good news for everyone! Seems like the Khronos/ARB merger, might be a good thing.

Interesting. As it stands, I already get better performance out of OpenGL than I do in DX in Vista beta 2... I wonder how this will make a difference.

Wow, are the drivers for Vista that bad?

Well, I've tested two different gfx cards with three different sets of drivers. I don't think there's anything wrong with the drivers per se.
