Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/so what's this all about then?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRaL9-BrzUgI know what MAME is but that's "thing" it's running on?
EDIT: Found a cool site all about it:

You've not heard of the GP2x? Wow. It's a hobbyist handheld game console.
Check out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GP2X for info.
oh yeah that thing. yeah I have heard of it after all, so is it an good then? A friend sent me the link as he has bought one,
i want one of those but i can't program for it yet
PSP, DS and GP2x are they best handhelds for homebrew games
PSP for the graphics and the memory chips
DS for the touch screen and so many people have one
GP2x is the best by far because of all the features and has a SD card reader built in unlike the DS and has a linux OS
Hmm, well, it's nothing like a flash cart and cable for the GBA, I've got one of those GBA Devkits, and looking to bring a Pong-style game to the GBA. Should be interesting to see how homebrew handheld games can be these days in age.
i rather dl DevkitPro off the internet, is a C/C++ IDE that has stuff for making programs on consoles and handhelds and buy a SD card and card reader with a passme2
DevKitPro is not an IDE; it is a code library to develop software for a variety of handhelds, such as the GP2x (I think), PSP, DS, and PowerPC.
Wow fuc%&/$ great because whilst i was looking at this i found that
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8eZOJr5rs4Also featuring great music... :O)
That's actually pretty cool. So, this GP2X thing has built-in TV-out then? A whole arcade in yer pocket. Nice. :)
Mr. P, oh my mistake. someone told me it was an IDE
That Vectrex video is cool!
Yes, the GP2x is quite a nice little thing.
It even makes funny farting sounds!

Hmm, seems like ArcadEd got some competition that can fit in a pocket, and the palm of your hand...
All in all, there's not too many handhelds, or consoles for that matter that can really be considered open-source without a big fight with the company behind it. I mean, yes, you can mod an original Xbox to be a Linux PC, and run BlitzMax, and design a game on that, as well as getting the PS2 Linux kit to do about the same thing. As far as anything else, you'd need to convert your code to C, C++, or C# (assuming that X360 games are now being written in C#), and having knowledge of how to port a game. Really can't say that there's anything better than this for a handheld. Then again, the Pocket PC's easy to port into, if you have Visual Studio .NET series.
WOW... that is pretty impressive. Technology is fairly marching on - and what a bargain at 125 quid !
Anyone got one? How good is the steering? How well does it lay in your hands?
It looks like the controls are placed very much at the top of the device.
I got one.. steering?? you mean the joystick? Joystick is not the best possible but you can live with that. It has not best possible feel on hands but then, I have not tested other handhelds how they compare. Overall it is a nice package, you even can buy additional "devboard" that has usb host ports and other neat connectivity things included.
It really looks promising how well the emulated stuff is running on it in the movies. Hmmm what are the ups and downs from your point of view? How fast is amiga stuff running on it? How bright is the display at normal days light in a room? Any rumours about a roadmap/GP3X already?
