will Blitz3D or BlitzMax add more GUI's?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/will Blitz3D or BlitzMax add more GUI's?
i have a license of BlitzMax and a license of Torque Game Builder, the last version, what has a lot of GUI to ease adding collisions, tilemaps, physics, paths, etc. and this GUI's create the programming code wich you can edit manually.
so i think, will blitz3d or blitzmax add this kind of GUI to ease our lifes?
i am more comfortable with blitz3d or blitzmax but it is ontly coding, what is good but it is a slower programming.
in the new Torque Game Builder you create all design in GUI's and then you can edit the torquescript code to fit your needs, so it really decrease the time you invest programming hours.
can somebody answer this?
thanks,
matt.
I can't answer it but I have been saying the same kinda thing for years, if only Blitz had an interface like Director - then it would be supremem commander of the 7 seas.

is there some way to send an email or private message to Mark?

No, it won't happen. You're not really asking for a GUI by the way, you#re asking for Blitz to be made into some kind of pseudo-game making tool or hybrid level editor and scripting engine. Blitz products are programming languages, not game making tools. If you want a game making tool ( and I for one won't blame you if you do ) then you want something other than Blitz.
Personally I like the idea of developing in such an environment, but I wouldn't want to use some generic all-purpose version. Make your own, it'll be 100 times better than some bloated one-size-fits-all tool which still doesn't do some of the things you want and does other things in entirely the wrong way for the type of game you're making.
Turning Blitz into such a tool would take away the one thing it's always had going for it. Unlike Torque, 3DGS and others, Blitz can be used for making any type of game, not just a couple of genres and then if you want to make anything else you're working way too hard fighting against the tools.
If I thought there was a chance of it ever happening, I would caution BRL to think carefully, but there is no chance of it happening, so I don't need to, do i? :)
as much as i'd like to see something like this happen... i'm going to have to agree with Gabe on this...
Blitz3D is a programming language... not a game engine... and therein lies both it's strengths, for those who enjoy coding everything to their own specs...
... and it's weaknessses, for those who want more of a total solution.
my wants for Blitz are for it to remain the programming language it is, and maybe add a lil more functionality to make it possible for us to...
1- hack together a decent OOP engine out of it...
2- access dx9 graphics features...
that'll be good enough for me...
but i see where you're coming from though... and there are a few gui libs out there already that work fine with Blitz3D...

if Blitz3D should move to directx9 i will move with it too, but i am affraid it wont happen because mark left b3d to die because of bmax :(
matt.
BMAX owns BB and B+ and once it gets 3D modules, B3D will be useless
also i hate game makers, they suck and any idiot with half a brain can make one with those
